Really nice and detailed video. I was questioning how helpful "video boost" actually is and didn't know about the size difference in the files. Is there a size limit on the video boost videos? Like shooting a 1 hour video and then boosting it, would that fail or just take too long to process?

Thanks, I really appreciate it! I managed to find an FAQ where Google states that video boost is limited to 10mins - which seems fair enough as that would be massive, and a lot of crunching for them

Please how can i share the boosted video ? When i try to share it in social media it changed to like a raw video with very low contrast and desaturated colors

Easiest I found was downloading it from Google photos on a different device Or I suppose deleting the raw file from your device and then downloading from photos should work too

Do you keep both versions in the cloud? Or does Google delete one?

Both still appear in the cloud for me But with storage saver, they're not nearly as bad. For that same 10 second video Original: 6.2MB Boost: 4.6MB

What if you start travelling and visit a country with no google features available like this one, or google shuts down their servers over night lets say, so half of what their phones offers gets taken away. I don't support this business model. The featueres that are advertisied can be taken away easily by the lack of internet in the area or simply having to move to another country. They should make all the features work on device rather than tying up everything to the servers

It's definitely a concern, and I don't love that most of their new features are just DLC Hopefully it's just a stopgap and acknowledgement that their video needs to be better in the future

@@FilthyCasualTech what i fear most is other phones taking a bad inspiration from this, imagine a set of features locked behind a subscription. Lets say if a phone can shoot better photos/videos the company can easily lock it behind a monthly paywall and give the customers a less appealing image... i can easily see this going wrong quickly if apple pulls of something like this as they're becoming a service company while their iphone innovation has peaked. And people are becoming more and more comfortable for paying for services especially in developing countries

I would really hope consumer backlash ends this if attempted, but then quite a few car brands look to be adopting that business model... I suppose Google does already paywall some Photos features behind a Google One sub, but they seem halfhearted If Apple successfully pulled it off though, everyone would surely follow suit

@@FilthyCasualTechexactly, i cannot believe we're entering in a world where the things we buy are at the mercy of a corp, first video games, then movies and cars, and now phones. Remember samsung and other manufacturers already brick your phone if you move to a different country. Its only gonna get worse. Fight for the ownership and basic consumer rights of doing whatever you please with the property you own.

Video Boost is a great service, in many situations it gives video quality that was not (yet) possible on mobiles before. Also remember that it is expensive for Google to supply the servers for this to work and it saves users time in post processing. The fact that it is 'free' (although I'm guessing it is part of the price you paid for the phone) is awesome. I believe Video Boost is usable even in China but of course you have a point, without internet it won't work (like most other features on modern smartphones). Still, I'm sure you're aware that the Pixel 8 Pro has great video even without the boost!
