Video captures suspect stealing beloved vintage airplane in Torrance

Surveillance cameras captured the moment a thief brazenly escaped with a beloved vintage airplane in Torrance.
The plane's owner, Anis Pradhan, is devastated after dedicating years to restoring the beloved airplane. The aircraft was not only a passion of Pradhan’s but was meant to be used for training underprivileged children who aspired to be pilots.
The plane was being stored inside a custom Airstream trailer at a Torrance warehouse parking lot on the 22800 block of Lockness Avenue near Sepulveda Boulevard. On Jan. 3, security footage captured the moment the suspect pulled up, hitched the trailer to their white pickup truck and hauled it away. "The plane is a Piper PA-15/17," Pradhan explained. "It’s a two-seater, U.S.-made aircraft.”

I unfortunately saw the trailer with plane inside burned down Thu morning in a Long Beach industrial area. A fire truck put it out so I’m surprised it wasn’t reported to police. I called the LAPD Harbor Division and left a message because nobody picked up. I have photos and know the time it must have been set on fire, along with local businesses that may have cameras on the street and a homeless woman camped across the street that may have seen the culprits. If anyone knows how to contact the owner or investigators let me know. Feel so bad for this guy.

The trailer was probably not roadworthy. A blown tire or bearing burned out would have been enough to catch the trailer on fire. The FD would have no way of knowing what was in it. The thieves never got any money out of it, plane, dream and hope were lost. The thieves will get a finger shaken at them, if they even see the inside of a courtroom, and not even be asked to replace the money it took to build it. The children who lost an educational opportunity are the big losers. Criminals murder hope, once more, and neither feel nor experience the pain of loss, because they have no more feelings left.

Reeks of insurance fraud. It's just too specific. They knew what they were doing. They knew what they were stealing. That's a hard plane to sell. There are loads of them out there. They're not that valuable. When was the last time it flew and when it was the last time it was certified.

There were 4 additional engines in that trailer. He was planning to ship the plane to Nepal to train student pilots plus bulid his own planes.
