Heck. Even the developers themselves were beefing with the characters like Luther. There's an easter egg in the first game (missing kelp seeds) where Freddi lets Luther get eaten by the eel. It's glorious.

Your Freddi Fish: Coral Cove is my Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon. I would always get stuck at the last task and never learned how to complete it. This being said, Humongois games literally MADE my childhood and I’m glad other people remember them aswell!
