I saw this on the news in California in the U.S.A. please remember people that the chief will bring his men and women out because the firefighters safety is number 1. Becoming a first responder is partly knowing you may not make it home. During 9/11 first responders were doing what they trained for and unless it was saving people they were not following any orders but to do what they signed up to do. In this fire that killed 72- 80 people it was on a smaller scale but it was much sadder. Alot sadder because you could hear the people clearly dying. I honestly would have rather shot myself and anyone else if we (my children, my dog, myself, possible grandparent) were going to die being burned alive. And I would NEVER dream to ever do harm as such but what is a better way. Quick shot or two holding my family and saying our last words or screaming in agony while being burned alive... and i mean like I can see and hear my neighbors dying and burning. This is awful and it did remind me of emotions of 9/11. And why do we have apartments so far up? Why is there no way down on the outside and on both sides? Why did it spread so fast...my guess is because it was built with the cheapest and likely very cheap and illegal materials. There should have been sprinklers. Yet it was too spread out already. But id haventried my best go get out. Id rather jump holding my children. 9/11 could not have been prevented. This building burning and burning so fast could have been prevented. There just was no time. I hated living in an apartment but at least only 3 floors. You can survive jumping from 2 or 3 stories easily esp if you have time to throw mattresses down or the f iredighters have that tarp thing. This is awful and it shows how much the government there really cares about their citizens that may be poorer. Sounds like the USA.

Watching this after my tower block had a fire 2 weeks ago (arson) ours is 14 floors high, we're on floor 13, the fire happened at 4am on the 14th floor. Escaping down the stairs with my 8 year old was terrifying, all I could think of was Grenfell. I will forever be grateful to the woman from the 14th floor that practically kicked my door in and screamed to get out. The aftermath of dealing with something like this is incredibly strange, there's a numbness but also a fear that lingers. I remember sitting in our hotel room on the first night as we were displaced and not being able to sleep despite being exhausted, I wandered out into the lobby and found all of my neighbours from floors 13 and 14 sat there. Nothing but love to the people of Grenfell.

Ignore him. He's just being a troll and/or irrational bigot in general on these comments (I'm a white Brit, and he strikes me as an attention-seeker). He might have been hinting at his irrational belief (not supported by actual fact) that immigrants are given piles of money each, or that they somehow deserved their fate. He also seems to think all immigrants living there were Muslims, which is not the case. The reality is, the residents were some of the poorest in society - hence why their years of concern about fire-safety in public housing were ignored. The racist plonkers might go on about how a 'white man' wouldn't start a fire like this, but they ignore all the fires white Brits start every day. The difference, is this building had unlawful cladding on it, which made the fire get out of control so quickly. Perhaps the racists could examine their logic - if immigrants were so 'rich', they would not be living in such a poor area, in such dangerous conditions.

Rosco Pico I'm a white Brit, not politically 'correct', and I do have concerns about immigration when it's uncontrolled. But logically, u r not very bright if u think this situation was created by 'immigrants'. If u check ur facts, u would be aware that a) Predominantly white investment bankers created the recession that involved austerity cuts, which most likely were the major cause of the poor fire safety in this building. b) Overall, immigration brings in more taxes than it costs. If u check the research overall (compared to whatever bigotted news/rumour source u use), u wld know that. So basically, if the immigrants weren't there, there wld be even less public money available. Therefore, with those two facts, u cannot logically blame immigrants for this. I don't give two hoots if the guy whose fridge caught fire, was an immigrant or not. If it hadn't have been him, it would have been someone else eventually in this tower (immigrant or Brit), who dropped a fag, or fell asleep with candles burning. That happens routinely every day around the country. U also can't expect laypeople (immigrants or Brits) to have enough technical knowledge, to know a fridge is potentially dangerous - u think he WANTED his flat to burn?! The problem was most likely AUSTERITY, which led to the council (who do have an understanding of risks in building) putting cheap cladding on the building, making it go up like a torch. As the fire brigade say, normally they wld have got it under control quickly.

@xyzsame40816 жыл бұрын
Hi Crazy Hai, looked at the vid after 1 year. from the 4th to the 18th in 8 minutes ! .... I meant - that the fire brigades - and many of the residents had no chance. And I was still am shocked about HOW QUICKLY the fire spread even in the beginning. Such insulation fires had happened before (never with such catastrophic outcome). So the architectcs or planners SHOULD have known ! The command of the firebrigades likely realized it at a time when it was too late to savely evacuate. And given that the building had only ONE staircase (not wide!) it would have been also a nightmare to evacuate. (never mind it was complete negation of the usual policy that keeps people safe). Many people at that time asked themselves why the firefighter had to not evacuated. I think they had a very, very narrow window of time where that would have looked like a halfway safe solution. And they were confronted with a completely new situation so when they realized WHAT was going on they had the choice between 2 terrible scenarios. The fire could creep into the house from the outside - so not only would they have had hundreds of people rushing down the staircase while the firebrigades try to GO UP and with all the equipment. some people instinctively acted against the stay put policy (or did not even know it) and in this case it saved their life. But of course they profited from the fact that not everybody ran down at the same time. The staircase quickly filled with smoke and became a death trap too. this was social manslaughter.

Plop them out the window (best to have them land on grass/dirty rather than). they can survive a fall like that, they parachute and land flat on there belly with all there legs spread out(natural instinct). The higher they fall from the better chance they have to survice and go into the parachute mode.

I don’t understand why they told the people to stay in their apartments. That was the most stupid thing; they stood a better chance trying to escape that fire! This was such a sad situation and an avoidable one if the building inspectors had done their job according to the building codes and the person who owned the building. To think that I saw a video of racist white people making an effigy of the building with brown people stuck at the windows and burning it while they laughed and mocked, sick my soul. These are the same type of people who think that slavery was a good thing! You will reap the rewards of what you sow Demons.

From the public inquiry: Multiple fires were allowed to spread because of combustible materials by the windows and within the cladding system. Whilst attempts had been made to construct fire stopping compartments within the cladding, they were "installed incorrectly, and no evidence has been provided that they were ever tested for performance in the type of cladding installed at Grenfell Tower," the report said. -Flat entrance doors were non-compliant with fire test evidence and doors going to the stairs "do not appear to have been upgraded since installation in 1972" -The ventilation system - which was meant to prevent smoke from entering the stairwell - did not appear to work as intended -Issues with fire lifts meant they could not be used to transport equipment or residents up and down the building -The fire service had to pump its own water into Grenfell Tower - the building's "dry fire main" system was "non-compliant" with guidance at the time of construction and is "non-compliant with current standards" The stay put policy was applied because it is the appropriate response for a fire in a high rise. It usually works pretty well when....all the fire safety regulations are met and inforced. Which wasn't the case. Did you listen to the video? The fire spread to the top flour in 8 minutes! This is not supposed to happen. Obviously this is fucking horrible, but the 911 responders followed the procedure that isn't a problem usually. Those poor people oh my god.

At the time of the court case, Grenfell seems to be the powerful people telling the rest of us...”We can do what we like”. This enquiry will only as, the same questions as the survivors did AT THE TIME. Getting drips of answers a year later is not what this nation is about. Now the BBC news is saying that Criminal prosecution AGAINST THE FIREMAN are being looked at. ITS NOT THEIR POLICY AT FAULT. IT IS SOLELY DOWN TO THE PROFITEERS SMUDGING GIRE REGULATIONS. VILE INHUMANE ACTIONS OF DICTATORSHIP FLEXING ITS MUSCLES.

@zarasamuels93774 жыл бұрын
Short answer massive violation. Long answer cladding on the outside was highly flammable and gave off toxic flumes as it burn. There was no sprinklers or no fire alarm in the building. There was only stair well down which was supposed to be fire proof didn't no have fire doors coursing it to act like a chimney funneling smoke. (Residents had been warning of all of these faults for quite some time) Also Issues with access to the road preventing fire engines getting closer, water pressure issue on the night and faulty gas pipes within the tower didn't help but let's be honest I think we can all see as soon as that cladding went up the people on high floor sadly never had a chance.

The fridge started the fire, but the cladding was what caused it to spread up the building with such speed. So both the faulty wiring and the cladding is the fault of the local authority who ignored residents’ concerns for years.
