The P1000 actually has FOUR (4) times digital zoom to extend the image to 12,000mm times Zoom. It becomes very noisy and grainy at times but 6000mm (250X) zoom which is what Nikon calls Digital-Fine is very detailed for space and land images.

I do have a weird question. When I'm in the P/S/A/M mode the flash won't fire. Any idea what is causing that? I just got the camera yesterday, so I'm getting to know it. I regularly shoot with a D7200.

I had the Canon Powershot SX50 HS for several years now. 50x zoom is nice, but at the end of the day, it's still just regular quality. For many years i liked the bridge camera, but i just got tired of not being satisfied with my pictures. I recently switched to a full frame body (Canon 6D mk1) and a Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2 and the difference is soooo big. Finally real quality.

Purchased one of these to add to my fleet of Nikons. To me this is a high priced toy that lets me capture shot from a mile away, or gargoyles hang from building in Europe, Only played with this one time in day for about 10 minutes and found it very difficult to film on a $400 tripod. There was a slight breeze and impossiable to keep it steady on target at 3000mm. How do you get the 6000 mm in digital zoom? Thanks for your time. .

Question, have they removed the EV limitation ?, on the old P900 you could set 30 seconds at ISO-100, if the ISO was changed to ISO-200 for example then the max shutter speed you could set would be 15 seconds and so on, this crippled it for any decent night sky shots. can the P1000 be set to ISO-3200, and 30 sec (or even bulb) when in manual mode ? To check just set the camera to manual, ISO to 3200 and see if you can set a 30 sec shutter speed
@terrybrooks395
@terrybrooks395 6 жыл бұрын
Damn, found out elsewhere, it's got the same restrictive limitation to EV as the P900 had (which was why I got rid of that), you cannot for example set ISO-3200 and have a 30 sec shutter speed, at ISO-100 you can have 30 sec, at ISO-200 you are limited to 15 sec and at ISO-400 it's limited to 8 sec and so on, hopeless for deep space objects, meteor showers etc, Oh well

It is 3000mm. Compare it to a telescope with that focal length. A crop factor is only a comparison in sensor and aperture size. The 3000m equivalent is really reaching 6 times further than my full frame 500mm. It is true it has a smaller sensor, but it still has the reach of a 3000mm lens. I own this camera and it's predecessor the p900. They have phenomenal reach. They struggle at ISO setting beyond 400 though. Not ideal for low light.

Actually, this is not true. Saturn's max angular diameter is about 20" (20 arc seconds) and Mars' is about 25". When he posted this video on 10 September 2018, Mars was just coming off of it closest opposition in 15 years, and had an angular diameter of 19", where as Saturn's was 17". Also, Mars is much brighter than Saturn during is opposition years. Frankly, they're both horrible targets for this camera. The 3000mm focal length translates into about 60x magnification; Mars will always be a pale red dot and saturn a bland yellow one with barely discernible "lobes" on the side. The only planets worth photographing at this magnification are Jupiter or Venus. If you can get Venus now in the morning, you'll see its crescent shape outlining a 50" globe; Jupiter has the largest angular diameter of all the planets nearly all of the time, and is 100% illuminated; its currently at about 31". but will be at 45" next July. So in the night sky before it sets, Jupiter is about twice the size of Mars now (Oct 2018), and 40% larger than Saturn now. You should be able to make out cloud bands at "dim" exposures (dial it back to where you can see the color on the disk, but not its moons) and its moons on "bright" exposures. This is about what you can make out with a cheap telescope.
@kd8opi
@kd8opi 5 жыл бұрын
@Bob Thorpe Agreed, but it is amazing what this camera could accomplish. I'm reading mixed reviews about its image quality, and I don't know if has an option for a full manual shutter - but if it does it might be a good camera to pair with a iOptron tracking camera mount.

PIPP will align your best frames and discard the bad ones, so you'll end up with a very stable smooth video, AS2! will stack those frames into a single image. Then you can adjust that final image in Registax using "wavelets" which will reveal any hidden detail. It's all pretty basic, and free. You'll be amazed. (Try capturing longer and more stable videos to begin with it will improve the results.) Good luck have fun.

As I stated in another vloggers review is this: why didn't they put in a higher quality sensor in this camera to match the quality of the lens? Perhaps in a year or two...then you'd have to buy again. Great marketing strategy Nikon.
@geekanoids
@geekanoids 5 жыл бұрын
If they put a bigger sensor it would lessen the crop factor, thus need a much larger and heavier lens. My guess is another £1,500 on top of the price too.
@eddyg1794
@eddyg1794 5 жыл бұрын
Well there are sensors above what they've put in this one that are superior and not expensive. As to the zoom factor....I'd prefer a 28-1000 with a good sensor rather than the 125x currently with a tiny sensor. Your mileage may vary...lol

Yep!! Only from Nikon, as no one else has the foresight or guts to create a photographic monster like this. But ... big BUT, it is a really fun camera to use. Heavy to carry around so you do need a tripod or even a monopod for best results. Interestingly, you can take photos of things you can’t see with this camera. Now that’s a photographic difference.
