Video Notes: Tora-Guchi Application [Tura Guchi Tichiki]

Some very rough "video notes" that I filmed yesterday on an application idea for tora-guchi. I filmed this for myself, so I wouldn't forget the idea, and to remember the key points I thought were important. It isn't of good enough quality to share on KZfaq because it was shot with an uke who is a non-martial artists, a foot shorter that me, and less than half my weight. Moreover the oral explanation was just "stream of consciousness" rambling. That all said, it does show the application idea well enough to see how it works. Hope some folks find it interesting and/or useful.

Kata can be highly effective to the practitioner. It's imperative to visualize the intention behind the movement. Great to bring the technique to life. Keep up the good work. We'll keep watching.

2:52 - 4:00 I like you are talking more concepts rather then this is the way to do it, in a street situation there are no rules and one must be ready for all situations so if you understand the concept rather then "this is how we do it" its more in line with the true spirit of Martial Arts, self defense, defense of the innocent , apprehending someone doing wrong ...

Good bunkai. The idea and principle behind this technique were explained perfectly. Thanks for sharing. I always look forward to your new vids and often watch your older vids. My school lost much as it was Americanized and made more "appropriate" to teach to children. I have and continue to help me to get to the heart of what the katas were really about. Thanks. Chris

Great stuff, this technique have so many names in different styles of karate Mawashi uke, Kaiten uke and so on, same with applications. Thank you for your video.

Nice Bunkai!! On the oral aspect you could improve the audio. It was kind of hard to hear. BTW what style do you study?

Thanks for the feedback, You are certainly right about the audio. I might re-film this bunkai (with a larger uke) at some point and will try correct that problem. My background is mainly in Kuda Yuichi shinshii's Matsumura Kenpo and Oyata Seiyu shinshii's Ryukyu Kempo, but I also studied Toma Shian shinshii's Seidokan Shorin ryu and some Goju ryu. I consider myself a Shorin ryu practitioner, but I embrace material from many branches of the Ryukyu martial arts.

Ah, the good old dream of a kosa uke/doji uke arm wrench. That's why we karateka started doing so much hojo undo. Good luck with that - by the way, have a look for "Ura Gosha Dori with the crossing arm only" of those funny ninja guys. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipukpLmpsbaZfmg.html Excuse my tone. Thanks for showing us something - and it would be a nice explanation why the descending arm travels inside in most karate technique.
