Terrible police investigation. Not saying the McCabes and Albert's covered up a murder, but the investigation was horrible on par with Barney Fife being the lead investigator (without Barney's charm). With the evidence(or lack thereof) this case should have never been brought. She maybe guilty, but Proctor destroyed any ability to be able to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt. So it has the appearance that she was being railroaded to take a lesser sentence, and when she wouldn't they upped it to murder. The defense had so much confidence that even they did not want the jury to be able to possibly find her guilty on a lesser charge(that being involuntary manslaughter).

In short, the CW has virtually zero evidence of Karen's guilt, and what they have could reasonably be interpreted as an attempt to frame Karen. At this point, having followed the trial, I struggle to think of an explanation for the evidence that doesn't involve the police fabricating at least some of it. I can claim _beyond a reasonable doubt_ that John was not killed by Karen backing into him & striking him with her taillight at speed. I can claim _beyind a reasonable doubt_ that the giant hole in her tail light was not created at the crime scene by Karen. Yet, many pieces of her light were found there, and reconstruction of the light proves the pieces were from hers. The only explanation I have for that is that they were planted, and strong circumstantial evidence supports that conclusion (no glass was found in the initial search which went down to grass, many small shards were found by a better team some time after that, and progressively larger shards (up to more than 4 inches across iirc) were found by one officer in particular over the following weeks (that officer isn't credible in the slightest)). I could go into a ton of detail about the problems with this case, but let it suffice to say that many prosecutors struggle to understand why this case went to trial, and many police officers/adjacent are appalled by the investigation behind this case.

She practically admitted to hitting him but walked that back as reality started to sink in that she would pay a price for this. She then found a vlogger who was looking for attention and a cause and he and the defense orchestrated a trial by media and sucking in gullibles who think they are do-gooders. They came up with wild conspiracy theories to fit the scene, trying to get everyone to feel those suspicious feelings and think they are clever for spotting a conspiracy. I wasn't decided one way or the other and thought maybe there was reasonable doubt. However, after the trial and the facts being layed out (as well as several interviews with Karen and her parents one can look to online), it is apparent to me that this defense is all smoke and mirrors. She did hit him. She should be ashamed of all this bologna she's got going on to try to escape the extremely poor decision she made one drunken evening. RIP Officer O'Keefe....

That’s not how I interpret

Put youself in the shoes of someone whose life is in danger, and is now reasonably sure they will not be (further) harmed by their circumstances. Even if someone you cared about died years ago, you'd be happy about that. It is bad for the family, but this case isn't about them. That said, if it doesn't give the family closure, that's sad. I agree with that.
