Just ten miles south of Boston is the appealing suburb of Quincy, boasting many attractive residential areas. Some of these neighborhoods are ideally situated to take advantage of the views and recreational opportunities afforded by 27 miles of picturesque shoreline. Quincy is the leading city of the South Shore area, and also known as the City of Presidents. The second and sixth U.S. presidents, John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, were both born here. The two birthplace homes are the oldest presidential birthplaces in the nation. Although Quincy is popular with commuters because of its convenient Red Line subway connection to Boston, this thriving community offers residents a significant amount of commercial development. Quincy is one suburb where employment opportunities can be found close to home. The area is also known for its schools and efficient social services.
Theophilus and his wife Helen Louis Baxter King were two prominent community leaders in the City of Quincy. Part of their legacy is the Baxter-King Estate and we are here to tell you they dedicated their lives to community service and philanthropic work in and about Quincy. However when it came to building their own home T. King then president and owner of Quincy Savings Bank spared no expense building number 36 Heritage Road. In fact their mansion is one of Quincy's largest and finest. What impressed us most of all is the quality and the attention to detail. This 6,837 square foot, 23 room, 7 bedroom and and 3.5 bath property offer three levels of living all on an acre lot with detached 1,700 sqft three car garage.
In 2011 the Baxter King Estate was completely restored keeping the period detail which includes original 1860 carved woodwork, arches, customer built ins, hand carved mantles and paneled wainscoting. The first floor offers a dining room with an entire wall with leaded glass cabintry, along with a tiled fireplace. The eat in kitchen was completely redone in 2011 with honed black granite countertops, keeping storage in mind. Paired with todays convenience of a walk in mud room by the side entrance. Formal living room with pocket doors open up into the oversized family room with wainscoting, built in bookcases, beamed ceilings and ceramic tiled fireplace with carved wood mantle. Off the family room you’ll find a large three season sunroom with flagstone flooring and wall of windows.
Upstairs on the second floor there are five bedrooms including a master bedroom suite with sitting room. All of the bedrooms are generous in size and offer period detail. There is also a bonus laundry room with built in cabinets and folding counter.
The third floor offers additional living space which would be perfect for an au pair, out of town guest or extended stay family member.
The preservation and renovations done in 2011 are a perfect blend. The period detail has been polished and enhanced sitting comfortably alongside todays modern conveniences. This is an "Exceptional Property" shown by appointment only. Please call us today for details.
