I have one of the Bachman 3-truck Climax, and after sitting on a siding for a couple of weeks, the second truck's plastic gears seized up. I sent it back to Bachman and they replaced the trucks and gears with the metal ones. Runs great! And the service was speedy.

What a beautiful little engine. Can't believe it's in HO, with the spoke detail on the tiny wheels!

Very nice, looks and runs fine. Only the brass contacts need a little black paint. I can remember trying to get a Roundhouse Shay running (unsuccesfully) and than came the Bachmann Shay, what revelation that was and even after 10+ years its great. Bachmann gets a lot of negative comments but they have some unique loco's in their Spectrum line.

I've had my 3-truck Climax for probably close to five years now, but it's never had service done. And in classic "I only have one steam engine" fasion, it got ran hard with all kids of consists behind it. as of last year around April, I started having issues. Left a scenic consist blocking a mainline at club for close to four minutes untill I could fetch it with something else. After about a half-hour of run, it would seize and halt. As if Christmas, it won't move at all, but the sound matches, so I'm not sure if it's a split gear or not. Could this be part of the mentioned defect or does it just need service?

Probably the defect, I would replace it and service once after and call it good.

Finally got one although it's not sound. For as small as it is it goes over turnouts great.

Have you heard anything that Bachmann plans to resume production of the Clmax or the Shay?

Sad that bachmann no longer makes these, this video is over 7 years old, infact they don't make any logging locomotives these days

nice slow speed on that loco. Never understand why the load bearing drive gears are made of plastic, i mean isn't it obvious its gonna cause problems. Still dont understand why this hobby has gone up in price so much with our advances in manufacturing, electronics 3d printing etc. Your lookin at $499 for this unit...crazy, but she is beautiful....think your cab light burnout at 3:29 :(

-These units were released with metal gears and have so far proved very reliable -The price of a model is predicated on bringing a product to market. A well know N scale company invested over $2 million per car in one of their recent 11 car passenger sets. -3D printing is a viable option in some circumstances, but lacks the intricate detail found with modern injection molding process -Light is off, not burned out
