It's been an amazing year for the Casio Loopy, all thanks to the incredible work conducted by fans of this delightful console. In this video, which is the first of a two part series about Casio’s 1995 home console for girls, we’ll be looking at the huge strides being made in emulation, preservation and homebrew for Loopy!

I remember YEARS ago when someone was talking theoretically on twitter about building a Loopy emulator, and then the roms of each game gradually being ripped thanks to the amazing work of archivists. It's so inspiring to hear more and more of this incredible console's history, giving it more of a spotlight!

CORRECTION: I mistakenly refer to the Loopy's CPU as 'SH-2', it is instead an SH-1 CPU! Sorry for the error! 🙇 Also, I definitely mixed my voice too high this time causing some clipping, I'll make sure to correct this for next time, apologies again!

I'd love to see Doom running on the Loopy, for 2 reasons: first, Doom MUST run on everything, it's like a fact. Second: it would be hilarious to see a violent game running on a console targeted to little girls

Failed obscure consoles are probably one of my favourite types of consoles out there. The Super A'can, Mega Duck, and especially the Loopy. But the Jaguar is still pants tho

And I get flack for still tinkering with and developing for/on an Apple IIGS. The hardware here, with a few modifications, would have made a real solid microcomputer in the mid 90s as a way to introduce programming and games to younger kids (and older, would have blown away all the monochrome edutainment options). 16-bit/early 32-bit consoles and computers are one of my biggest interest, especially niche hardware like this.

This video is SO COOL. As a child who was obsessed with making digital art and printing at home, I would’ve eaten this UP in my prime. I so wish there were more unique gaming systems like this being kept alive. Also I learned to play piano on a Casio so I have built in nostalgia for the brand. PLS do some sort of stream or contest where you give away a sticker because I want one 🥲

i usually would ask if the indie scene started working on it ... but since the hardware is quite rare, at least outside of japan, i highly doubt we will get many or any indie loopy games at all.

I've been on the lookout for a Wanwan Aijou Monogatari translation for a while, but it seems the Loopy suffers from the same curse as other lesser known platforms: it isn't a Sega or Nintendo product, meaning emulation, debugging tools, romhacking and homebrew are (or have been) largely non-existent. Here's hoping it does get the attention it deserves in the near future.

A Wanwan translation draft script has been created and initial work is underway on the translation patch! There’s definitely less eyes on the Loopy than Sega of Nintendo stuff but there’s still a very dedicated group of Loopy fans!

This was a great video Dom! I'd honestly really like to see a comeback or a spiritual successor console to the loopy. It looks like it has such a cool identity to it that no other console has.

Wait the emulators are out now? Hype af. About the flash cart... When can we buy? I've been waiting for that before I pick up a loopy of my own. But between the emulators and flashcart I'd love to develop homebrew for the loopy. Maybe contribute to fan translations. But it's hard to do much when I can't plop modified Roms into the hardware, or emulate the games.
