I just received mine and it must be broken because the dial to turn to unlock the ball is stuck right and the ball is loose and won’t tighten

Good review....but would have been good if you had attached the ballhead to your tripod and mounted the R5 and then test the level of grip on the ball.

I own this head as well and the friction control is pretty good. You can snug it to where the ball can just barely be adjusted if needed and I find it fairly easy to make fine adjustments even with a Hasselblad 500CM mounted. Not as precise as a friction or geared 3 way head but not bad. I recently got the larger N44 on a larger Innorel tripod and it is even better.
