How much is rent in Hanoi? This video shows you what $350 a month can get you. The apartment is in a pretty good location and comes furnished. It's in Ba Dinh, which is about half-way between Hoan Kiem Lake and West Lake (Ho Tay) - both very popular locations for tourists and locals alike. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Hoan Kiem Lake and about 20 minutes to walk to West Lake.

$3500 US? You should be VERY comfortable with that. And you can do better than I did. I was in a rush and took the first thing I found. Try to find a local to help you and you'll save a ton (on everything).

I used to teach in Korea, and I've been teaching in China. The thing I like about China is that there are lots of English gigs for adults. Unfortunately, the cost of living is high (I live in Shenzhen and pay about 600 USD for something a lot smaller.) Are there many adult English schools in Vietnam? Thanks for posting.

slightly expensive for a local I would say. Considering that you do not have AC, hot water, and will be paying for electricity and water separately, but is fine. If I was to give a grade to your deal, it would be 6.5/10

+Slow Easy English Considering it's in Ba Dinh District, I think this is a very good price. My sister rent an "apartment" that was half this size for 5 mil VND (roughly $250 at that time) 6 years ago in the same district. So good for you! The internet shouldn't be too bad if you pay on your own, I think a package of 200k-300k (~$15) would be of decent use. Just my 2c.

+Slow Easy English How does one find apartments to live in Vietnam? I'm like you on a budget and I find the further you are away from tourists spots the cheaper it is. Currently I'm in Thailand for the month but I recently heard they are doing up to a year there now for living as far as a visa goes. Any information or a place to point me in is much appreciated.
@SlowEasyEnglish
@SlowEasyEnglish 8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Molina Sorry to answer so late. Unfortunately, I don't really have any good answers to your questions. When I was looking for an apartment, I found the same as you - that it's cheaper the further you get away from the popular spots. I got that place through AirBnb. I also found a couple of real estate sites in English by searching for "apartment rentals Hanoi" but I felt like these sites were overcharging by quite a bit and taking advantage of foreigners who don't know the language. I would recommend that you make friends with a few people and ask them to help you out. That would probably be the best way. And don't be in a rush. I had one place that asked me for $350 and wouldn't budge. Two days later, after I had already taken this one, they emailed me again saying they'd rent it for $300. LOL As for visas, I have no idea. I had a tourist visa and the only options I saw on the website were one-month and three-month. I think the one-year visas might be available upon renewal but I honestly have no idea. Just a guess. But there are plenty of people living there so there must be something like that available.

the apartment is nice but the kitchen is a major drawback for $350.00 especially considering that you only have a one burner hot plate to cook on and not a microwave oven or a full stove to cook on but like you said you probably got a raw deal because of your status you could have done much better with a small apartment but that's just my opinion !!!!!
@SlowEasyEnglish
@SlowEasyEnglish 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. This wasn't a horrible, horrible deal, but not a great one either. That single burner was a problem. Also, the kitchen was very sparsely equipped and the landlord refused to get more than a handful of things for it. I didn't stay there long. My fault for not being more thorough and careful. I think if you are the type to eat out a lot (which you can do in VN easily because it's quite cheap to do so) then it's more tolerable but I like to cook my own food a lot so I was much more careful with my next place. :)

Yes, a little but as I commented elsewhere, the problem wasn't the price I paid for rent, it was the landlord who refused to fix the wifi when it broke one week after I moved in. It's hard to know for sure. lol. I've been told that it was "expensive" by locals who should know. But I was in a rush and didn't have time to shop around. The worst part wasn't the price of the rent, but the fact that the landlord did nothing about the wifi that broke a week after I moved in, which I absolutely NEEDED to get any work done. I moved out two weeks after moving in. lol

Jessica Do a search about moving to Vietnam it will give you lots of results. You don't say you move to Vietnam to look for work, teach English or to live? You can easily come to Vietnam with tourist visa for 3 months after 3 months you can do visa run and stay for another 3 months and going like that. Monthly budget for an adult living alone like a Vietnamese middle class costs you 1,500$US a month including rent, bike rental, eating out etc.. If you live like a Vietnamese working class, you can survive by 500$ US a month.

+Bluer Blue Yes, they exist, but depending on what you're used to and what you can handle you might not want to live in one of those. However, if you want to find one at that price, you might want to get a local to help you because I don't think the agents catering to westerners in English would list them or offer them to you. Most westerners want something more comparable to what they had at home.
