That was very helpful, thank you! I'd love to hear a side by side comparison of ay / ây because they sound so similar to me.

Hi, the comment where I said that you can say ay like /ai/ as in 'shy' in English is not correct. I'm sorry about that, here I made a more in-depth video. You can check it out here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZreIaM1h386rfGg.html

Super useful!! The difference between ai and ay was not clear to me at all before watching this, but now I feel very confident with these sounds. I have found it particularly challenging to correctly pronounce â and ă in words. Your coverage of ây is helpful, although I think there's something missing with the tongue position. I can make a very clear "say" sound even if I relax my lips and open my mouth vertically. I am looking forward to the next video so I can build my confidence with the different sounds.

thank you for your comment! Regarding ây's tongue position, I have to think about it a bit more. However, if you replace 'ây' with the English /ei/, people will still understand you fine as long as you don't make your mouth too horizontally flat and narrow.

Vietnamese "â" sounds quite similar to letter A in english (e.g. baby). In constrast, "a" in Vietnamese is closer to the sound of "a" (e.g. cat). British and US pronoun the word 'cat' slightly different. I would say it's closer to British 'a'

Thanks for your recommendation. i have thought about putting Vietnamese translation for example words but often times, there are some words that do not carry any specific meaning and have to go with other words to create a meaningful word. Also, there are also words that have more than one meaning so it'd be impossible to list out their meanings for every example. Finally and most importantly, i think vocab learned without context might not stick well, so i just decided not to put VNmese translations for example words and try to put the hightlight of the lessons on pronunciation. However, i'll definitely touch on vocab in future videos after i'm done with the pronunciation series. So stay stunned :)
