My issue is the price. $1500 for a mini led in 34 inches when the Alienware is OLED at 1100. I just bought my 65 inch mini led tv for my living room for 850. How is my tv the same tech yet 700 cheaper with more features (hdr10, hdr10+,Dolby vision, Dolby Atmos support). I think some of these companies are going a little crazy with bringing mini led to monitors and thinking it requires them to sell them at ridiculous pricing as if it was new tech when it's been around for a couple years now.

So many things I wish you would have gone over in this video since 200hz grays out several options. 1. Does 165 hz mode have better response times due to the fact you can engage PureXP for less blur. 2. What the different levels of local dimming do. How much ghosting is at each level. 3. What is the contrast level with and without local dimming. 4. Does have it have a true srgb mode for people that need it for production. 5. How dim can it go? I know people love brightness but if you are doing color work you don't want a ton of brightness in a dimly lit room.

I was waiting for this monitor for months. On paper this monitor is perfect for my usage: 8 hours daytime WFH, some casual gaming during the night. I don't do a lot competitive gaming so VA panel is excellent for me. However I really cannot justify the price. As USD/CAD rate is high, this monitor is listed CA$2200+ before tax on Amazon CA. On BlackFriday I purchased the AW3423DWF. It costs me around CA$1250 after tax (discount + rakuten cash back). Although OLED might not be great for working, the AW comes with 3-year warranty. I would have happily bought the XG341C-2K if it doesn't cost (literally) twice of AW3423DWF. I really hope the monitor market can have more bugdet mini-led panels like the TCL R646 in TV market.

@Yusheng Cen 1300 for the Alienware DW, this ViewSonic is 1500. The way I see it, the mini-LED will have comparable black levels to an OLED. The $200 premium is like buying an unlimited extended warranty for burn in because the ViewSonic will never get burn in. Not only that, you get HDMI 2.1, KVM, and USB-C, all of which are missing on either Alienware QD OLED monitors. Only issue is the VA panel and ghosting, which Jay barely covered in the video

@@UrdnotAkongo Unfortunately in Canada the price difference is closer to CAD$1000, as OP mentioned. Right now you can buy the AW3423DWF (the version without the g-sync module) for CAD$1299 (plus tax) whereas the cheapest I could find the XG341C-2k is CAD$2259 (plus tax). While I completely agree with you that a $200 difference makes the XG341C-2k a lot more compelling, that falls apart when the difference is over $900 for us up here.

What I absolutely hate about this panel and what is for me a "not to buy" reason is that 200hz marketing bull. They even state clearly in the spec: Refresh Rate (Hz): 200 It is super annoying to look for a monitor when they all advertise the max OC rate and you have to dig into the fine print to see what the actual refresh rate is. Not ONCE in their own spec sheet they tell you that this is a 165hz monitor. Just a poorly hint that you should go to 165 in case you get display errors. I don't need or want 200hz but it's just plain false advertising for me.

@@MrGelowe RAM is also advertised with its overclocked speed and it's left up to the consumers to check the JEDEC specs to see what the base speed for any given type is, and a CPU's memory controller may not even be able to handle the advertised OC speed. @@RealRaynedance That doesn't make it better. If ram is sold as cl14 but cannot hit cl14 stably, it's pretty scammy considering that cl14 is going to be sold for more. Selling OC as stable stats is wrong. If OC is validated and guaranteed, they wouldn't need to say that it is OCable.

@@MrGelowe Well that's how it's done. You have WELL over a decade to go back if you want to complain. All RAM is advertised by its XMP speeds _and_ timings, and XMP has been around since 2007. I wouldn't exactly call this mini-LED monitor a bridging the gap between expensive OLED and edge backlit panels when the Alienware QD-OLED with the same screen size and resolution exists for less money, and the QD-OLED seems to have helped a lot with the burn in issue on more traditional OLEDs.
@kcmsterpce
@kcmsterpce Жыл бұрын
The OLED burn-in issue is about 98% less significant than many consider it to be. How do I know? I owned three plasma displays from 2009 - 2016 and gamed on them considerably. Then I got the OLED C17 display, never had burn-in after 1000+ hours. Now I have an OLED C1 with 2000+ hours of use over the last two years for PC/gaming. And also, I have the LG 48" 48GQ900-B monitor as my main display (with taskbar and desktop icons as standard). The way LG works to cleanse the display is more extreme than needed because... after 14 years of plasma (and later) OLED displays, I have not had ANY burn in. But on top of that, image retention was minimal even with my cheap plasma from 2009. Do you think there hasn't been advancement since then? Burn-in for OLED is a concern ONLY if you decide to be as extreme as possible to cause the event. Normal use these days makes it nearly impossible to be considered a concern.

Love these top ultrawide displays and thanks for sharing but they're only practical for those with an extra 1k to burn over a more normal priced monitor. Hey Jay, I'm a new fan but dove headfirst down the rabbit hole that is your channel while researching my first ever PC build. Love the vids, the information is invaluable and the shenanigans are super entertaining. I'm not sure if you take video requests but I wanted to toss one out and see if you'd be willing to do a video explaining GPU nomenclature, both industry-wide and company-specific. What do the different names of cards from the different manufacturers mean? What's the hierarchy? I get a little lost when trying to compare Founders Edition, FTW, ROG Strix, TUF, etc. A video explaining what the naming schemes actually mean would be super helpful to myself and other noobs like me. Thanks in advance! - An enthusiastic (but confused) newcomer

Hard not to care about the best displays coming out, especially when what you see is pretty much an expression of your PCs specs. Ive had this 2k/32"/144hz monitor for a few years now so all this mini led and oled stuff is pretty exciting to see. Definitely will be upgrading this gen as theyre hitting both high refresh for esports and great visuals for media consumption with only my wallet as the compromise.

2k/32'/144hz? So a 1080p then. Since half of 4K is 2K, and for some reason they call it 4K when it's only 3840x2160 and not 4096x2304. Half of 3840 is 1920 Half of 2160 is 1080 So half of 4 is 2. You have a 1080p? Or do you have a QHD 1440p?

So miniLED.... nice but not at double the cost of my current nanoLED IPS based panel. Or £400 more than the AW34DWF oled. I never new overdrive caused that, grr, I've sent back perfectly good monitors in the past that had that that annoying issue that I never new was overdrive, BAH! Thanks for the tip! Can I make a request, would nice to know what the PictureByPicture mode looks like and how easy it is to toggle on/off and a shot of the monitor in the dark, so I can see how much better it is at handling IPS glow or the lack there of.

Given you lose free sync and other features to go to 200hz, seems crazy to me that it costs $1500 when you can buy the ad3423dwf version for $900 or so with some BF deals. Won't even list if it's a TN, VA or IPS panel. Either way oleds have 0 motion blur. The only benefit of traditional display technologies is that they have much higher full screen brightness. Seems impossible to justify a $600 price increase for more brightness. The base refresh rate is the same too. As you stated, mini-led is between oled and traditional LCD backlight. But the oleds are way cheaper... wat

I've been using an Alienware 34" 120hz IPS 1440p ultrawide for the last four years and it's been great. Black levels aren't the best though. Got a second ultrawide, the Gigabyte G34WQC-R which is a 144hz VA panel for my racing simulator, been good thus far. Black levels are better on this one but smearing is more prevalent. Overall I don't feel any need to replace them. Between these and my 77" LG C2 OLED I'm good on displays for a long while.

The monitor in that link is different in at least one spec than the one you showed in this video. The one in the link says it is 180 hz overclock refresh versus the one you showed in this video being 200hz. UWQHD 1440p resolution, 1ms (MPRT) response time and a 180Hz (overclockable from 165Hz) refresh rate gives you the edge you need to win the day.
