Vijay Mallya Cheated Me of My Dream: GR Gopinath of Air Deccan| The Quint

3 жыл бұрынCaptain GR #Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan spoke to The Quint about the merger of his low-cost airline with #VijayMallya’s Kingfisher Airlines. Looking back, GR Gopinath feels that he would have not let Mallya take control of Air Deccan had he known that the owner Kingfisher Airlines would completely change his business model. GR Gopinath says that Mallya, though a hardworking businessman, could not separate his private life from his professional life.
While saying that his Air Deccan had cut cost and caste barriers in India, Gopinath reminisced about an RK Laxman cartoon featuring the common man that was centred around Air Deccan and it’s low-fare flights. Captain Gopinath’s biography, Simply Fly, has now inspired a mainstream Tamil film titled #SooraraiPottru starring Suriya in the lead. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video on 12 November.

We flew from Delhi to Bangalore because my grandfather died, the only airlines which we could afford was Air Deccan in that times of emergency. It truly served the common people.

@@swathi3203 It's not so easy to run aviation business... Even jet airways is bankrupt today, "jaz airlines" in movie. Mallya cheated banks bcoz of this aviation business otherwise he had very good business in beverages. So comeout of that business is actually a smarter which Gopinath did by selling his stakes to mallya when he was running in loss. But mallya never realized wt he was doing by taking loans to run loss making business.

I am here after Soorarai Pottru , and what I saw in movie and what I understood is GR Gopinath was not allowed to run his aviation business after his struggle to launch his dream project . I believe he was forced to merge with Mallya . But now with the Kingfisher & Jet already out of the market , his concept has shown real progress with Indigo,Spicejet,GoAir ,Airasia .

Capt. Gopinath emotional sometimes that he couldn't talk freely.. Air Deccan was squeezed out of business by babus, goyal and mallya. Mallya need an international flying airlines to show off and as per government norms that requires 5 yrs experience in airline industry.

Yes, he didn’t just sell his airlines. He sold them with all his liabilities. Mallya being Mallya never bothered about ROI eventually had to close down due to heavy debts..

@@npd9758 kingfisher airlines was nothing but disaster I mean at the start it was working well as it was positioned as premium cost airline but later they kept on changing their position to low cost and premium and all those useless expensive lounges, cuisines , and other luxury within the aircraft. Government was already having headache with air India, why the hell should it takeover another good for nothing airline. It will only damage its own interest by competition with its own customer bas of air India if it ever acquired which is really laughable.

This is just a case of calling the grapes sour. Capt Gopinath knew Mallya. He staked out and cashed out. He doesn't have the moral authority to criticize the decision now. It was a business decision. If Capt Gopinath was so concerned about his vision, he should have had such clauses written into the agreements. Can't keep pushing knives deeper now after he's enjoyed Mallyas cash.

I have great admiration for this man, but for how smart he is, I don’t buy the fact that he believed Malaya would keep this running after the merger. Mr.Gopinath had a great a concept, but eventually he knew the other rival companies wouldn’t let him run, so he sold and made his money and didn’t want to be in this dirty business.

People just love to manipulate the meaning like crazy! He does speak with minimum respect towards Mallaya, but you just want to ride on the anti-mallya sentiment of the people, the movie did the same, extreme dramatisation, which just hides the truth behind the story. Ofcourse Mallaya was a criminal, no doubt, but he is no way an idiot, he was super hardworking and intelligent guy, who made some bad decisions and that costed him everything.

Soorarai pottru is an awesome movie. The only thing worried was the mallya and paresh character didn't lived upto the mark. Prabhu ganesan's brother Ramkumar ganesan would've been apt role for mallya role and Boman irani/Prakash raj could've done paresh role.

If I understand correctly, Vijay Mallaya bought Air Deccan because he wanted to get the International flight routes. During this timeframe, as per then Indian Aviation law, Only a flight carrier who operates more than 5 years and above can apply for International license. Since only Jet Airways and Air India was having the international flight route they were enjoying a good market share. Vijay Mallya wanted to compete with them in the international space. So he bought Air Deccan. After which, he merged it with KingFisher so that he can apply for International flight licenses ( because Air Deccan was already five years old).

What a misleading video title. So much suspense and build-up for nothing. On the other hand, interview was good.

As everyone knows the movie is based captain gopinath's biopic then why they used fake names and fake places instead they should have used real names and places like suriya with real gopinath name and place also can be shown as banglore itself other than madurai. In real also he sold his airlines to mallaya but in movie they shown that he didn't sell it ..

He merged his airlines with kigfisher airlines in 2008.....but film showed during 2003 when he was started his airlines.,,.in movie they showed correctly

well, he deserves it. Doesn't he? The idea would habe been aligned with the commercial purpose as well had he not merged with Kingfisher, may be some one like Tata would have been an ideal choice.

Jet vanished like it's name.... Kingfisher was eaten by piranha.... Finally Gopinath sir attained an eternal fame in domestic airline because of a movie... Now he will be remembered... Karma won finally
