Excellent talk by Prashad. Just one minor correction, the Sandinista Revolution took place in Nicaragua, not El Salvador. In El Salvador there was the FMLN which was a combination of five separate movements that joined to fight against the violent military juntas that were supported by the US. After they came to power under Funes and then Sánchez Ceren, they fell strongly out of favor with the Salvadoran people due to continual insecurity, neoliberal policies that contradicted their rhetoric, and corruption. It was an opportunity wasted. I recommend looking at the analyses of Dagoberto Gutierrez on what transpired in the Chapultepec Agreements regarding the Salvadoran case.

Vijay is spot on again on how China was able to industrialize in the 1950s with the famous 156 large industrial projects which laid the foundation for today’s industrial power house. I’m from Changchun he mentioned where the Soviet helped China establish the very first automobile factory FAW (First Automobile Works). Today FAW’s trucks are sold very well in Russia especially after the sanction.

I totally agree with your analysis of the Latinamerican cycles Vijay. In the case of Chile let's not forget that the left was decimated during the Pinochet era. It was 17 years of ruthless persecution, followed by the glorious entrenchment of "democratic" neoliberalism, the fall of the Soviet union, the arrival of the drug cartels, the disappearance of all alternative media... No wonder there are few people left on the left who are capable of building up a coherent project. For the time being it looks like a timid social democracy is as good as it gets. But the world is changing and changing fast. That will be a source of inspiration and I hope it gets contagious despite our relative isolation between the Andes, the desert and the ocean.

Uplifting conversation. It gets us away from the hysteria around China 🇨🇳 by The War mongers who are working overtime to convince us that peaceful coexistence isn’t possible. The issue is inclusive development in the 21st century and addressing inequalities created by Capitalism. We equally ought to reform international institutions to reflect the demographics of our planet by having The Global South’s representation increased in International Institutions. This in turn will foster multilateralism and more cooperation desperately needed at the Global level. Not just having a few countries yelling and screaming injunctions at others. The Post-WW 2 institutions aren’t representative nor are they responsive to many of the 21st Century's challenges. This Conversation was a step in that direction. Thanks 🙏🏾

Speak about the India -China border conflict that the USA and allies continue to spark, divide and conquer is their rule of the game ent it? I am here backing asia economic development, looking on from Latin america I wish the world could be an equally balanced global hegemony. China owns enough lands here in South America and Africa, why would the Chinese want more lands and invade India? On the other hand I have lost count of how many countries the US invaded in the last century.

in historical regionalism, there were wealthy people as well, who weren’t necessarily taxed, depending on the norms of the land. but there were no corporations either, and the wealth is wholly passed down to progeny upon death. and perhaps that’s a factor for genuine philanthropy, as well as the fact that people actually really resided somewhere and there was no such thing as a “tax residence”. in that individual wealthy people wished to leave a legacy and contributed to public works voluntarily, without even the benefit of a “tax deduction”. but corporations are immortal. and there are no longer individual mortals contemplating the final disposal of the bulk of their wealth and the legacy of their name, at the sunset of their lives. so i think corporations should be taxed, as there are no other ways that a society may use to induce their contribution to society, unlike for individuals who live among people and belong to a common culture.

venture capital banks - these are not typical investment banks connected to 'conservative' (whatever that means in todays' context) funds that return a predicable profit on investment - rather they are high risk / high return investment institutions - as soon as the Fed began increasing the cost of money, all investments in long shots became exponentially higher risk spaces - thus the venture capitalists run on their bank. But I agree, this is a canary in the coal mine - as foreign funds / nations begin to pull away from a crumbling US petrol-dollar, bigger less speculative banks will begin to fail too.

Why does multipolarity presage war?
@IndiaGlobalLeft
@IndiaGlobalLeft Жыл бұрын
I guess what Vijay was trying to say was multipolarity means different states competing against each other for sovereignty over different domains. Think about the inter-war period of the 1930s. A regionally balanced world, on the other hand, as Vijay sees it, is one where there are demarcated zones of sovereignty. For example, the Mughals and the Qings barely contested for sovereignty, or West European nation-states today don't contest for sovereignty. A regional world is not devoid of disputes, but its disputes are more local and specific in nature.

Whats the difference between a regional world and a multipolar world?
@theaconite1400
@theaconite1400 Жыл бұрын
If I'm understanding correctly, the difference has to do with stability and how conflicts are approached. I think in a regional world, areas like east Asia for example would cooperate on various things like high speed rail interconnecting their contries. They would still have distinct politics and differing ideologues (which would lead to squabbles about the details of things like high speed rails), but they would settle their disputes with no to little violence because they'd realize there's mutual benefit to the whole region in maintaining stability. Multipolarity would be based more on ideological camps or blocs of economically or militarily allied countries. Conflicts would be addressed more violently with more of an intention of destroying the other ideologies or blocs. I'm not entirely sure if I've gotten that right but it's my understanding so far.

I agree: the world is moving towards "regionalism," not "multipolarity." China has no interest in being a pole. It leads a region represented by BRICS, SCO and RCEP that wants economic development, trade and peace. The other region (and pole) is the United States that wants to harvest the world, especially in the Global South, and to dictate political values everywhere. China and India are returning to a time (a period of over 2,000 years!) when they were alternately the world's largest economy and a regional hegemon.

The same day this video was released - "Change is coming that hasn't happened in 100 years and we are driving this change together," Xi said while clasping Putin's hand. "I agree," Putin replied while holding Xi's arm. 'Please take care, dear friend," he added. A Multi Polar World has already begun. Vishay is wrong here. Some smaller European powers including Hungary and Serbia have begun to operate outside the EU immigration mandates, displaying strong sympathies with Russia. Chancellor Olaf Scholtz on his one-day trip to China, the first European leader to visit since the Covid pandemic, risking criticism from the US and his own party, stated the new pragmatism: ‘New centers of power are emerging in a multipolar world, and we aim to establish and expand partnerships with all of them. Latin American countries like the idea so do African countries. Enough of Colonialism! Iran and Saudi Arabia are switching from the Dollar to their own currencies. This will happen more and more...

The Art of War is often studied and applied in modern-day U.S. foreign policy doctrine and the idea of a unipolar world hegemon. The U.S. has historically been the world's dominant military and economic power, and The Art of War provides guidance on how to maintain that power and handle potential challengers. One principle from The Art of War that is particularly relevant to U.S. foreign policy is the idea of "knowing the enemy and knowing yourself." This means that a nation must have a deep understanding of both its own strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of its opponents. In the context of U.S. foreign policy, this means understanding the capabilities and intentions of potential adversaries, such as China or Russia, and developing strategies to counter them. Another principle from The Art of War that applies to U.S. foreign policy is the importance of diplomacy and alliances. Sun Tzu, the author of The Art of War, emphasized the need for a commander to form alliances and build relationships with other states in order to achieve success in battle. In the context of modern-day geopolitics, this means the U.S. must work to build and maintain alliances with other countries, such as NATO, in order to strengthen its global position. Finally, The Art of War also emphasizes the importance of adapting to changing circumstances and being flexible in one's approach to conflict. This principle is especially important in today's rapidly changing world, where new technologies and geopolitical realities are constantly emerging. To maintain its position as a global superpower, the U.S. must be willing to adapt to these changes and develop new strategies for dealing with emerging threats and challenges.

Haha, The US don't understand anything about Sun Tzu. They don't understand the concept of "knowing your enemy". They don't understand China or Russia even a little bit. That's why the US is failing, just listen to what they are saying, they are totally clueless, they have 0 understanding of China and they are totally delusional about their own power and influence in this world. China is the writer of the Art of War, China is the oldest continues civilization, almost 5000 years old. All Other civizations crumbled, because they didn't have the wisdom to survive. Not any Western civilization managed to survive. The US is only 250 years old, it's a little clueless baby compared to China. The US turned out to be a total failure, their empire only lasted for 100 years, it's collapsing now and they have turned the world against them. Yes they teach the Art of War in the US, but they don't understand the meaning of the words.

No we already made our choice. Either the United States stays the number one Global power and economy in the world or prepare yourself for nuclear annihilation. We would rather die in a nuclear war than exist in a world where we are not number one, so pick.

Blackrock is not worth 10 trillion dollars in holdings. It manages money in total about that amount, but it's the clients money. Pension funds for example have money there. Still crazy though. Larry Fink the founder gets called personally during financial crises. And they have a lot of their own money along with a crazy amount of power over the market. It's in dollars though. Last time I checked Shiva's got his money in gold and doing quite well.

When the US condemns some country for some "horrific" acts, it is usually the US had been there done that, so one then must think what's the motive behind this condemnation. And not be "used" by US for its grand scheme of things.

I mean, a single all-India referendum is not really democratic. I'd say each state and territory should be able to have their own, so less populous ones aren't swamped by hundreds of millions of votes from elsewhere. Of course, maybe there's no constitutional provision for this, but...the people still need to have their say! P.S. I still liked your comment. 🙂
