"This drummer is getting a work out." You should hear the entire concert, nonstop energy and the drummer keeps the pace at Octane level 1000. Their live performances in Japan are hugely interactive and the crowd knows how to respond. Keep the reactions going so we can keep the like coming in!

The fans of this band are amazing. You have full-grown guys who are bouncing along and know all the dance moves, mirroring them for the whole concert sometimes. Rob Zombie actually got some flack for liking these girls, and his response was priceless. Things like "Hey they are nice kids out on the road touring. What are you doing besides being a grumpy old f*ck?" and "These three girls have more energy than 90 percent of the bands we tour with."

Babymetal was definitely a surprise for me as well when I ran across them last year. You'll find that none of their songs are the same as the others, and they love to mix other genres with metal, so like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get, but it will be good. They put out 100% at every show, without exception, regardless of the size of the venue. They've been around for more than 10 years now and have toured the world many times, have drawn huge crowds for their solo shows, played at all the biggest metal festivals around the globe, and opened for huge bands like Metallica, RHCP, Korn, etc... and won numerous awards, the latest being Best Album for their Metal Galaxy record at the 2020 MTV VMA Japan awards show. The band that supports them live is called the Kami (God) band and is a collection of the best studio musicians Japan has to offer. There are some songs where they do an instrumental intro, like on Rondo of Nightmare (with the Mischiefs of God intro) that you can find on KZfaq. I recommend checking that one out at some point.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. This was at the Budokan in Tokyo, a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also a hugely prestigious venue for music concerts in March 2014, so Su-metal, lead vocalist, was 16 (born December 1997), Yuimetal and Moametal were still 14 (born June and July 1999 respectively). BABYMETAL are the youngest average age female band ever to headline at the Budokan - they sold it out two nights running and their first album was only just about to be released. Good spot on the mic rolling away and Moa catching it and making it all look like part of the act ... and yes they don't just do concerts and stand around singing their songs, they put on a show every time, whether that is in one of their big arena shows in Japan with all the pyro, moving stages and so on or in the smaller venues they play on their world tours (selling out nearly everywhere) where they can't use all the extra bells and whistles. They have won many awards in their 10 years (nominated for well over 30 and won most of them) including things like 'Best Live Band' beating bands like Nightwish. Their official videos are all good, but live BABYMETAL is best BABYMETAL. They had very humble beginnings as a sub-unit of a Jpop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin, singing and dancing to a backing track, then starting their own solo shows in tiny venues with an audience of 150, playing the food court at a festival and so on. They have worked their way up to filling arenas through their own efforts, hard work and talent, it wasn't all just handed to them by their agency, they had to prove themselves all along the way. Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) For me they provided the breath of fresh air that was needed by metal in general. It had all gone very stale, there was nothing new that really appealed, all the bands were doing the same things I'd seen done better 10-20 years and more before. Most seemed to have forgotten about melody and how to sing and they were all trying too hard to sound either evil or angry or both ... and then I stumbled across BABYMETAL purely by chance and they have very quickly become my favourite band of all time (and I saw some of the recognised great live bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Van Halen, Megadeth, Anthrax and so many more in their prime). BABYMETAL have 3 albums, about 50 songs and every one of them is different. Some you may not like, others you may love and that is all fine. Two things guaranteed is they will surprise you just about every time and they will never bore you. I'm sure you will get a lot of recommendations for more songs - pick any of them (but if you do 'Gimme Chocolate' leave it until you are 5 or 6 songs in or watch a real live performance, not the official video). I'm looking forward to whatever you watch next anyway.

A bit of information as a side note to this performance. This is from the Budokan Black Night, and the concert the night before was called Budokan Red Night. During this same song at Red Night, at the point where the two backup singers split and run off to the side stages, Yui-Metal (she's the one on the viewer's left) fell off the stage. Neither of the other two girls could see what happened, so they didn't realize something was wrong until they regrouped in the center and Yui was gone. They completed the song without missing a beat - they may be young, but they are pros - though you can clearly see the concern on their faces when the camera zooms in. Fortunately Yui did not suffer any significant injury, and she was back on stage for the next song.

Yes, indeed, but Yui had been injured and she was off for IDZ. Moa was injured during IDZ. So both were in pain by the end. They followed through and then entered triumphantly, carrying light sabers! Everybody cheered. BabyMetal was back!

There were multiple times during the first show where even Su nearly slipped or fell. They fixed the stage for the second show to make it less slippery and added the rails you can see around the stage in this video. A lot of people speculate that red night may have been what lead to Yui's continued health problems that lead to her having to leave the band. I've never quite believed that myself, but she and Moa took a beating at that show and to come back fighting and perform like they did is a testament to how metal these girls really are

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' was the last song of a two song encore that night. The lead singer, Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or Su) performed three solo songs, and Yui and Moa did two Black BABYMETAL songs without her. Those two back-to-back Budokan nights from March 2014 are still sentimental favorites of mine. They were the first BABYMETAL shows I got on disc, and the first complete concerts I watched. Su's solo song 'Rondo of Nightmare' from that same show is a must see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br1yd8x9srS-k3k.html As a bonus, it has a short instrumental leading into it, that features the Kami Band musicians.

Babymetal immediately exert their super power over you and a smile spreads across your face. The combination of youth and cuteness with the confidence and ability to control a stadium crowd is what initially gets people interested, but then they realize there's some real talent as well and they are great entertainers. All the girls have been performing for many years and the lead singer has done a lot of musical theater which I think helps in her metal performances. Their big concerts are full on theatrical productions with Yui and Moa conducting the crowd interactions, Su being imperious and the Kami Band ripping it up. The Kami Band are dressed in death robes and have painted faces as the are supposed to be Shinto spirits, This concert is at Budokan in March 2014 so the lead singer, Su, was 16 and the other girls, Yui and Moa, were almost 15. This song is a bittersweet coming of age story about a 15 year old school girl going to a concert and braving the mosh pit, while knowing the freedom of the moment won't last long. It's used to celebrate BM birthdays and both Yui and Moa have taken the lead in it for their birthdays. The song probably resonated with Su because the year before she had graduated from high school and the idol group "Sakura Gakuin", Yui and Moa were both still members, and started working full time with Babymetal. @@VikingReacts Yes, Babymetal fans are very dedicated and use #notacult quite often to keep themselves ironically grounded. There are lots of puns and in jokes involving the history of the band and it's origins eg all DVDs, Blurays and CDs are called Deloreans because of a translation mistake the lead singer once made. It's all very silly, but that's part of the fun with Babymetal. It's also a very diverse fan base as it spans the world.

Actually, you got the ages a bit wrong..this was recorded in March of 2014..Suzuka had just turned 16 back in December of 2013 and had her Birthday show "Legend 1997" the next day. Since Yui's birthday is in June and Moa's is in July, neither had yet turned 15. So, Su-metal was 16, Yui and Moa were both 14 at the time of this show! Of note, as the song sings of a 15yr old girl going to her first Metal concert, Suzuka was only 14yrs old when she made the studio recording of the song. BABYMETAL 101 Babymetal is a Japanese group Founded in 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (23 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old) ((Most likely not an Avenger)), Riho Sayashi (21 years old) ((Most likely is not an avenger anymore)), and Momoko Okazaki (18 years old) ((Still an Avenger)). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018) In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story) Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020) The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it. COVID Era (Mar 2020 to current time) COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL universe! And great (and I mean great!) song choice. Good job spotting what happened with Moa and the mic, hehe... She added some epic to this performance. And it went pretty well... unlike the previous day. They performed two consecutive nights there called "Red Night" (the previous) and "Black Night" (this one). And what happened was that Yui fell off the stage during this song's call and response part and had to skip the rest of the song. She appeared again for the next one. Then, Moa got injured but stood up almost in tears. They are (and already were at the time) huge pros... and probably more metal than most of us will ever be :) You will probably like this one, and this performance comes with an instrumental intro to showcase each band member's skills: "Catch me if you can" (Live at Budokan Black Night): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pM1oiMKblc3UfH0.html Until next time!

Great reaction, I'm glad that you could see past the WTF factor and actually enjoy this song and appreciate many of the elements that make BM, like the interaction with the crowd, Su's vocal abilities and the talent of the Kami band (the musicians). You answered many of your own questions. Su (lead singer) was 16 at the time and was already a fine singer with a powerful (at times high pitched) voice and a great performer. In the 6 years since that show they have only improved and polished those skills (sadly one of the other two girls retired and was replaced by backup dancers). Nice catching Su losing the mic and Moa recovering it. The whole ending sequence is a homage to Yoshiki, the drummer and leader of X-Japan, Japan's biggest heavy metal band of all time, who drummed/headbanged so hard that he collapsed at the end of shows (and also closed the show hitting a gong). Looking fw to you checking them again, they have several outstanding songs.

Welcome to the Fox Hole...it's deep and confusing and makes you smile and headbang equally as you fall deeper. It's Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal), an invention of Babymetal's producer, KobaMetal, and seeing this band live last year was the most refreshing new genre of Metal I've seen since...well, since I saw Sabbath in 1976 playing the, at the time, new genre of Hard Rock they called Heavy Metal! Try anything live by them and you won't be disappointed...though there may be the occasional WTF? as your brain adjusts. Subscribed to watch your fall down the Fox Hole into the Babymetal universe and wonderland.

They got me in 2 or 3 days, and i am ZERO into J-Pop and a bit into metal (basically old style rocker who grew up with Kiss, Queen, AC/DC, Boston etc), but BANG I was thrown deep into the foxhole. Baby Metal is such a unique act that blows people's minds and just clicks. Their concerts test a stadiums durability because they are as loud as Motorhead and the whole room is jumping and shouting most of the show. Rob Halford did a duet of Painkiller with Baby Metal's singer at a festival and it was heartwarming AF to see minions of metal around the world support them.

I'm another late bloomer when it comes to Anime and BabyMetal at 33. Never knew what I was missing out on. Literally changed my life xD (also, Su-Metal's sneaky little clue to the sound engineer at 6:31 for most likely her vocals to be louder in her in ear monitors) Amazing how professional the girls were here. And how incredible they are as artists now. Susuka Nakamoto is by far my favourite singer, and having Moa and Momo being dedicated dancers and support. They compliment each other on stage so much with their spirit and personality. If you watch them without cracking a smile once. You have no soul xD

Dude, I really understand how you felt watching this band first time. It is surprisingly good. I really like this "plasticity" of heavy metal. Once Andreas Kisser, guitarist from Sepultura, said that Heavy Metal is the most democratic music style of all, because you will find anywhere in the world a band making heavy metal with their own cultural characteristics.

@@VikingReacts I watched one of your Sabaton reactions. You know Babymetal has some connections with Sabaton. Pär Sundström tried to get Babymetal to Sabaton Open Air on their first world tour in 2014. In 2018 Sabaton opened for Babymetal in Japan. And in 2019 Babymetal released their third album which features the vocals of Joakim on a song. :-) And Su-metal mentioned in a metal magazine her favorite album of the year 2020 was The Great War of Sabaton. She is a bit goofy off-stage (a side we don't usually see): "I tend to listen to this album in the mornings, because Joakim's powerful vocals encourage me to push forward and achieve something great every day. But listening to it on the train is dangerous because I get into the groove too much and then I tend to miss the stops I'm supposed to get off at!". And you can read such things with other artists while on the other page of the magazine has a life-size Nergal of Behemoth. Some how it makes it even more funny to me. :-) Also because he's one of a few metal artists who has said he doesn't like them. Sorry, I went completely off-track.

Babymetal performs every type of metal you can imagine. If you want to see the most metal thing this band have done, check out Death from the Legend 1997 concert. They are known for not doing just one kind of metal. The band behind them is called the Kami Band. They are among the best studio musicians in Japan. Other songs to watch... Road of Resistance in Japan, Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html and something newer BxMxC from their new album. Try this video, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a56ZZa-dtdnXips.html, since its a fan cam there is less chance of being blocked. Amuse, Babymetal's label, is really fast with blocks. You need to pause and rewind a lot and I would suggest putting some type of overlay over the videos to get it through.
