I think you should be fair to Rollo. Ragnar actually never held his promise to be equals, he made himself a king while Rollo was... just his brother. Even in this war you can see that he stops the archers, he doesn't want to destroy them, he lets them go onto their ways.

Throughout the series they show us that someone who is stronger is a warrior similar to a berserker, who is not afraid of death in a fight. Ragnar was never presented as the best or the strongest I think Roll would have won easily but they made the fight more even.
