Its indeed about friction....inthe early years you would use different oils winter vs summer....the more to the poles, you can still think with your climate at that moment....though the oils have their intelligent winter summer range...even then its good to stay thinking for your car, and understanding all fluids feeding it with....you thread yr cars well by understanding them, and listening to them, dont you? Hi mate, i changed my saab 87 oil from 10w40 to 30 w 40 for first time....im wondering if i take any risks here...the saab i just recently bought sat about 5 years, i started the beast and drove it 50 km home with old oil....only thing right rear brake kind of kept hanging, im fixing that now.... So i changed from mineral to syntetic.....my blue saab 92, i still use 10w40.’...should i try to change to 5w30 as well?

Vad betyder sae? Står på serviceboken sae 15w40 va innebär det? Finns oljor 15w40 men står inget om sae tacksam för svar:)

What is your opinion on changing the volvos and saabs u and i own....what oil range we can choose from....i have one deeply going question here: in the 80ies the manuals and recomendations were written in another era, 30+ years ago...so they couldnt see in a future ball, to see what is still to be invented....thats why the kind of phylosophical question...im not so opinionated about oil, and i read and saw a lot of contradictary info, bout them....some swear to stay safe at mineral...ok i get that...but that is the status quo save thinking.Trial and error is another way to find out....but how long does it last till e.g. a rubber component is detoriorating cause the new oil?, and we can not see through a glas motor, to really proof the lot, people say about them....there is the factor of risk, cars and motors cost a lot in general, ....i know also that saab cause of its northern birth Sweden, has always recomended thinner oil than more south in the world, cause of your former colder winters.....nevertheless all these factors, knowing none of my saabs and volvos drip oil😎
