Located on the lush Yucatán Peninsula, Villa Tulum is a family residence completed in 2022 under the expertise of NOIZ Architekti architects. This architectural project is conceived with unique local conditions and the tropical climate of the region in mind. What truly sets this house apart is how it embraces the characteristic warmth of the region while incorporating eco-conscious elements to enhance comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.
The house is strategically designed to respect the local conditions and climate. The construction of the floor is elevated above the existing terrain, supported by load-bearing walls, allowing for natural ventilation beneath the house. The same principle is applied to the construction of the roof, which rests on sturdy concrete beams. The space between the beams provides controlled ventilation by harnessing the prevailing winds from the nearby sea. Given the high humidity and intense heat typical of the location, ensuring ample shade is essential to prevent overheating indoors while also offering generous shaded outdoor spaces.
At the level of the Caribbean garden, there is a spacious covered terrace, serving as an "outdoor living room" and occupying approximately one-third of the house. This terrace can be enclosed with sliding glass doors and screens to protect residents from insects, creating a versatile space that blurs the boundaries between the interior and exterior. Glass sliding doors line the interior on both main sides, replacing the front and rear facades and providing generous rooms such as a living area with a kitchen and a bedroom. Load-bearing walls are minimized, consisting of only two walls: the side perimeter walls and the parallel core of the house, which also encircle the masonry walls. This core houses functions like a wardrobe, hygiene facilities, and a laundry room accessible from the exterior.
The Villa was designed with the utmost consideration for the location and, of course, the comfort of its residents. Notably, there is a swimming pool nestled in the heart of the lush Caribbean garden, becoming an integral part of the architecture. Additionally, an impressive tower offers access to the roof, where a platform for yoga practice has been created, and even higher, it provides breathtaking views of the endless Mexican forests.
