I'm really happy Village is coming out as a big box, as this is an excellent game thats been hard to get for a while. Especially the excellent Village inn expansion. I'm no fan of the graphic redesign, it looks like its been sterilized by a graphic designer who's using design principles to make it functional over making it engaging. But others seem to like it. Anyway, Village, neato game that shows euro games about medieval villages can tell stories, be fun and be good all at the same time.

I'm a big fan of the Port expansion. I find that it makes the exploration action so much more interesting. I wish more games had expansions that replaced rather than added.

Oh my goodness yes. I call this Tall vs Wide expansions, and I always prefer Tall. Ones that build the game upwards rather than outwards. Replacing stuff counts as tall to me because you are also removing stuff at the same time. Inn is my fav, mostly because i played with it a lot more than Port. Which took me ages to find a copy of here, so its only had like 3 plays.

I love Village! The time / death mechanic is really clever and makes for interesting choices. Sometimes your best bet is to kill your family off as quickly as possible and I find it quietly hilarious trying to do that and disguise it from my friends.

Never seen this game before. I was thinking how everything looked so quaint and gorgeous, and pretty much decided to buy the damn thing once you mentioned the big box edition. Then I saw the new artwork. Yeah, no thanks. Might get it if I can get my hands on the older version + expansions.

Great game! So glad I got this and the 2 expansions several yrs ago when CoolStuff was somehow selling them at clearance prices. Makes me want to pull this out again!

Village is one of my favorites. Great video but just one correction. At the well you can spend three cubes of a color to take any action as if you pulled a cube from there.

An omission more than a correction. Time code gets in the way at times. I probably should have included that though but i can't fit every rule in

I got this on a good deal from geekmarket earlier in the year. Only got it to the table twice and haven't really clicked with or enjoyed it despite it sounding like a game I'd really like. Might be because it there was only two players. One day I will play it as the opener in a trilogy about a family and its wealth though. Village followed by Legacy: Testament of Duke de crecy (Terrible game name) then Last Will.

Upset at the visual changes to the big box, similar to the Iki reprint, but I can’t find Village anywhere and I can’t find it for a decent price so for a big box to also have the even more difficult to find expansions, yeah I’ll snag it and be a happy villager.

I agree, much prefer the art of the old edition. Just one point about the review though: The well space doesn't let you swap 3 cubes for 1 of your choice, it lets you take an action in an area when there are no more cubes on that area, or when you don't want to take a plague cube but still want to take the action. Great review though. Love this game.

I put that error down to an absolute bone-tired baby brained dad been up with crying child malfunction at my end. So many little errors crept in during this period, really dumb ones.

Yeah, I love village. A friend of mine hates it! The take a cube mechanism IS thematic! You learn skills or develop interests from doing things in the Village and that can help you do other things. But the expansions are essential.

I do prefer ‚My Village‘, came out later from Inka and Markus. Streamlined.

One of my favorites, and I don't have a copy so I was excited about the new edition. Although it's too bad about the art. Maybe I'll get it anyway for the solo mode, as I rarely get play any other way anymore.

Interesting. Last game I played we did a 3 block exchange to use a building with no more blocks available for that round and a coin to buy any colour block. Here you say 3 blocks exchange for 1 block. Damn I'll have to read the rules..

I've not played Village, but I used to have My Village with was... fine, but not interesting enough to choose over similar games. I wonder if I'd like this one more?

I'll be keeping mine. There's some extras in the big box, but not enough for me to warrant getting a whole new set

If the price is already inflated, sure. A new edition will likely drive it down. But I also think the old edition has a charm that will keep it popular and desired. Especially once more people see the new version. I'm thinking of Castles of burgundy here as well, when the first reprint came out prices dropped on the original, and then people went "this reprint is ugly, i want the old one".

Works well as a two player - has the benefit of less downtime for each player :)

@@3MBG I’d like to learn it enough to see why it’s so well loved but boy is it dense as balls. There’s nothing wrong with the trend per se but it did get a bit bonkers. Arnak is a return to form maybe.

i spent more than I should have getting the inn expansion last year. I'd be kicking myself finding out about the big box except the art is not to my taste at all.

Well, that's not as extreme as i was thinking. And, because of exchange rates and supply costs. I think i paid like $45 USD for it new here. So not as bad as i thought

@@3MBG I hunted for quite a while until I found a price point I could tolerate. Still, it is rich for my blood for such a small expansion, but I definitely saw it going for much higher.

I guess that's the beauty of the variation of board games and their themes, as the theme for this game was a massive attraction for me.
