Homemade chocolate donuts can be a delightful treat, especially when made with care and attention to detail. Here's a simple yet delicious recipe for village-style chocolate donuts:
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk (you can also use buttermilk for added richness)
1 large egg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the chocolate glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
In another bowl, mix together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough donuts.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
While the oil is heating, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one larger and one smaller) to cut out the donuts.
