Yes, as an American child I always envied the house Kevin lived in, from the parents to the house, it all looked like the perfect house, a mansion. Hughes loved filming in those large Chicago homes..while most only film in LA where the seasons don't change...totally different atmosphere. When I saw this film, I actually had a friend who lived in a house like that, his parents had so much money they had a Nintendo inside their Chevy Suburban. They had duplicates of all their NES games. An NES and TV in their Chevy back in 1990, can you imagine? Amazing. Anyway, it's all relative, if you grow up in that house then it's only a house. And no home is perfect. A large home can easily become just a large prison and the larger it is, the emptier it feels. Having all that money probably means you never see your parents and are raised by a nanny, or you're parents are very demanding of you..there's always a catch. You never know what anyone is going through. Nothing is black and white, mostly gray area. Merry Christmas etc!

I have never seen such a staunch defense for Kevin in any reaction. It makes me laugh even harder when you refer to the traps as "arrangements". I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...even tragedy...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese...😞

Sad part is a lot of jokes, dialogue and situations are lost translation not to mention cultural differences. Also I can only assume Mac and Daniels screams were probably dubbed over when it was translated into Hindi although I hope not. They both had iconic screams that cannot be duplicated. Great thing is the final battle is a lot of sight gags which is almost always universally funny.

Babu is wise and good. For Christians, Christmas is a time of miracles. They celebrate the birth of Jesus. Santa Clause is based on an old European story of a man that gave gifts to villagers on Christmas. He has become a mascot of Christmas for commercial purposes. Cookies and milk are traditionally set out for Santa Clause as a gift to him for bringing gifts. Christmas is about giving joy to others with the gifts God has given us. It's nice that we have this common connection of festivals. I know India has a lot of festivals, more than we do, but our most important festival is Christmas (for Westerners). This is because it's a time for family to come together and treat each other with gifts. It has evolved beyond a Christian only celebration into a cultural celebration almost everyone takes part in whether they are Christian or secular. Because one thing we all have in common is love for our family.

it was never a christian celebration to begin with, it was actually an ancient Greek celebration of the sun god called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Christians didnt celebrate Christmas until at least 800 years after Christ

@@lordeppiothe1 Not to be rude, but this is kind of a dumb take. Christians decided that December 25 would be the day of celebration for Christ's birth. They made it into a huge holiday that specifically celebrated that event. Eventually it evolved to involve gift giving and Santa and etc.. To say it was never a Christian holiday is dumb, because it is and always has been. If they still celebrated Dies Natalis Solis Invicti then that is what it would be called and they would put out pictures of the Greek gods or whatever, but they don't. So no, they're not celebrating a Greek holiday. They're celebrating a Christian holiday. It doesn't matter if they didn't start the celebrations until 800 years after Christ. If you celebrate Christmas in a traditional sense, then you're celebrating a Christian holiday, even if you're not Christian and that's okay. Just because you don't recognize or acknowledge the existence of Christ does not make it any less of a Christian holiday. Just get tired of people going "achsualae" when it comes to Christmas. People aren't celebrating the Yule Solstice or some Pagan holiday, they're celebrating Christmas. Now if someone specifically says they're celebrating Yule instead of Christmas, then yeah, they're celebrating something else. But the vast majority of the world are celebrating Christmas as created by the Christians.

@@Caillron originally it was not a christian celebration, because the story of Jesus is nothing more then an amalgamation of many different religions. like the story of Horus, who healed the sick , Mithra who performed miracles and had 12 followers and Dionysus who was born a virgin and was a traveling teacher, to name a few. The christian church decided to also celebrate it on the 25th to overthrow Solis Invicti and remove it strategically. i mean, its pretty obvious that everyone sings Jesus was born on the 25th of december while this is not true. brainwashing 101. I'm just getting tired of Christians that feel like they are above others and have to share their religious views on every single thing they can as if it is a fact like some sort of compulsion they cant resist. Newsflash, you are not better for believing in christ, and no one is asking for your point of view that is still based on a story that people in the middle east came up with thousands of years ago whom also didn't know where the sun went at night.

@Caillron you have good points, and I'm not the person you responded to, but I want to add some nuance. I'm Dutch, and like many Dutch people I'm not a part of any religion but still celebrate Christmas in a way. I don't feel like I'm celebrating a Christian holiday, but that I am instead celebrating a cultural tradition called Christmas (without any of the religious parts, such as going to church, putting a miniature nativity scene in my home, singing or listening to religious Christmas songs, which is all the stuff I don't personally care for). And this cultural tradition contains, for a lot of non religious people, a Christmas tree/other greenery, decorations and lights, certain music, certain foods, and most important of all getting together with family. I still call it Christmas even if religion doesn't come into it the way we celebrate it. Some people might say we have appropriated Christmas and twisted it into something it isn't (or shouldn't be), but I see nothing wrong with engaging in these elements in the way that we do. Isn't it true that a lot of these things were borrowed/adopted from other traditions? I didn't grow up with Santa, but I understand the magic that he brings to American children, and afaik he isn't a Christian figure, yet he's very much "Christmas " . I've heard a lot of stories about what Christian Christmas is borrowing from, and I don't think it's even that important as long as christians aren't going to claim ownership of Christmas trees, wreaths, baubles and lights as a uniquely Christian thing or claim that I'm celebrating the birth of Jesus just because I have a Christmas tree at home. If people say that what we celebrate shouldn't be called Christmas, then I think that's reasonable, but it's just convenient to keep using the word.

@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 You know, now you mention it, I've never once heard any Christian claim that Christianity owns Christmas or that it has been appropriated. Most of them that I know celebrate it in a cultural way anyway, not a religious way. So, they can't complain because they have also appropriated it from Christianity as much as anyone has. 🤷‍♂ I find it quite ironic that the only people who would dream of "defending" Christianity and claim that it was appropriated, are most likely, atheists, or at least secular. It just goes to show that nobody is safe from culture wars whether you're looking for one or not, it will always find you. Sometimes, ignorance (on a specific subject) is very much, bliss.

thanks for this fun fact: the little glasses boy that got pinned by the chair is Kieran, one of his brothers in real life “children of today’s times are very intelligent” and “mother should video call him so that he can consile himself” bless them, not realising this was almost 35 years ago lol there was no internet let alone video calling, also, US kids haven’t been allowed to be intelligent or clever in a long time, sadly… he’s not sad, just waking up :p that’s the furnace a cousin did the headcount but she counted the boy who left right after, remember? that was the furnace they’re not new, the one in the driver’s seat is the one who was dressed as a cop/is a cop earlier no his hands aren’t stuck to his cheeks lol that scene is iconic, it’s the aftershave that was stinging him that’s french because they said they had a flight to paris (where the eiffel tower is) no, the big actors didn’t fail, they did a great job too thanks and have a great week all
