Both Gregorian and modern-day Orthodox chants have developed from old Christian chants, back before the split in the 1054. For example how it would sound I would suggest "Terra Tremuit" ("The Earth Trembled") performed by Offertorium.

Because it's music made by humans for humans to evoke a certain feeling. It's the same way skilled composers can elevate the emotion of an action scene in a movie by composing the right kind of complementary music. All music makes you feel emotions-it's a function of how we experience the world.

The separation of the Latin Church and the Greek church was solely because of cultural differences. We can adore Greek chants as well as Latin chants. No need on the same denomination as them since the separation was cultural and linguistic differences. To be honest, Roman Catholic and Greek Eastern Orthodoxy aren't that different with each other. I can go to an Orthodox Church as a Catholic without converting to their denomination because of our similarities.

@@Doctor_Fate5 The ancient Greeks believed in and worshipped the gods of Mount Olympus where they thought Zeus ( chief of the gods ) and the others lived. Greece was one of the earliest places where Christianity ( belief in and worship of Jesus Christ ) spread after it started in Israel during the time of the Roman Empire. St. Paul preached all over Greece and is credited with converting the Greeks from the 'old' religion to the 'new' one, causing the people there to accept Jesus as the true God and abandoning Zeus and the Olympian gods as false. So, Greece has been Christian for 2000 years.

@@sirsim33 I agree completely. As an American of Irish and Greek ancestry I was raised to value both cultures but I don't have to buy into the stereotypes that others project upon us. As a child back in the 1960s, some of the older Greeks just like my mother because she was Katholicos and xenos. At the same time some of the Irish relatives didn't like us because we were dark haired almost, dare I say it in today's world, non-whites and also foreign. My parents were married 60 last years and had eight children. If you believe something regarding religion then you live it if you don't believe it then don't talk about it. You don't need a pope or a patriarch to tell you who you are.

O fleece bedewed with every grace, O Virgin Queen and Mother, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! More radiant than the rays of sun, and higher than the heavens, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O joy of virgin es, superior to angels, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O brighter than the firmament, and purer than the sun's light, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! More holy than the multitude of all the heavenly armies, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O Ever-Virgin Mary, of all the world the Lady, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O Bride all-pure, immaculate, O Lady Panagia, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O Mary Bride and Queen of all, the cause of our rejoicing, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O noble maiden, gracious Queen, supremely holy Mother, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! More honored than the Cherubim, beyond compare more glorious, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Than the unbodied Seraphim, transcending the angelic Thrones, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Rejoice, the song of Cherubim, rejoice, the hymn of Angels, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Rejoice, the ode of Seraphim, the joy of the Archangels, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Rejoice, O peace and happiness, and haven of salvation, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O sacred chamber of the Word, the flower of incorruption, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Rejoice, delightful paradise of blessed life eternal, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! Rejoice, O sacred Queen of life, and fount of immortality, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! I supplicate you, Lady, now, I fervently entreat you, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O Queen of all, I earnestly implore and seek your favor, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O gracious maiden, spotless one, O Lady Panagia, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! I call upon you ardently, O holy, hallowed temple, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! O help me and deliver me, protect me from the enemy, O rejoice, Bride unwedded! While I absolutely love it as well and Isihia do indeed mix Orthodox chants with Bulgarian folklore, ambient etc, they're indeed not "pure Orthodox chants". If you can't find the latter, search instead in Cyrillic - "Господи возвах" or "Господи воззвах". The former should give you results from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia etc, while the latter's in Russian. Respectively, there might be a тебе/тебjе/тебя as well in the name there. P.S. The bagpipes in the beginning should be a giveaway too, well before the drums. Generally, Orthodox chants are only acapella, without an instrumental accompaniment.

Jesus is your only hope!! Come to Christ. He loves you and satan's false religions of hinduism, buddhism, islam, etc. will all lead you to hell. Come home to the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Jesus calls you with open arms India. He wants you and calls you by name. He died for you and rose again on the third day so you may have life in Him. The reason these chants are so powerful is because they are led by the Holy Spirit, the One True God Elohim אלהים. God's judgment is coming for all humanity. Quit rejecting Him and come to Christ. No dude with an elephant head existed and this is all a lie of satan to lead you to hell. There is only One God Elohim -- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit which proceeds from the Father and the Son. He died because we are all sinners. All humanity knew there was One True God, then they fell, all the tribes of the earth, every nation, they fell to the lies of satan except for One Nation Israel whom He made a covenant promising a savior for Humanity. He came as man to save the gentiles. You can find everlasting eternal life in Him. Death is no more in Him!! Come to Christ and His Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The apostle Thomas came to your land to spread the gospel and He was ultimately martyred for spreading the truth in the gospel in India. Yet, still India has Catholic's. @@terriecooperman7232 according to what? You realise, that Rome like alessandria, antioch, Constantinople, Jerusalem was just a bishop. St peter founded antioch prior to Rome. Did he take a plane and fly to Rome skipping all the land in the Eastern med? This is the delusion of catholics. The orthodox churches were founded earlier... Rome was an equal bishop in Christianity for 1000 years. The pope is analogous to sauron, wanting to seize power. The byzantines were the romans, greek orthodox is the continuation of the roman church. Catholics fell to pagans around 500 ad. The catholics changed the doctrine independently contrary to the other bishops, and contrary to councils who developed Christianity. The created quite a blasphemous papal primacy. Added weird words to the original greek text of the new teatament. Used the wrong bread. It is also the catholics who belive in mysticism. Catholics believe in witches, processions, purgatory, evil cats 😑. All considered bullshit by the original Christianity. If you went back in time 1000 years and examined how church services were performed. The would operate exactly like Eastern Christianity. No weird organs, shaved priests.... Do some research and enlighten yourself.

And they're not wrong. The worship of Mary, saints, and martyrs, is not biblical. Jesus himself said, "No one can come to the father, but through me. He is in me, as I am in Him." But it's easy to see what decades of new age doctrine has done to the world. Which basically says that all (religious) paths, leads to God. But the truth is the truth, and they can't all be right, so some of them, must therefore logically be wrong. But to me personally, the biggest problem I have with the different denominations of the world, are those who claim christianity, but doesn't even know, much less follow what the bible actually says. And I am guilty of that too, sometimes. But the difference is, I'm just one person, and not a church, leading thousands or even millions of people. So I think the churches have a greater responsibility, especially since there is a script to follow, if you wanna do it right. To not do that, would be the same as a muslim eating pork, and drinking alcohol, both of which are prohibited and Haram in islam. Hollow works, as the bible calls it. But the replies here clearly shows that people just likes to comment, without actually knowing what they're talking about. So lay off Bethlehem, because if the interpretation given by someone else here is a good translation of what they meant to say, then they're not wrong.

"The world has stopped, peace is all around" 😭 accurate description of entering Heaven in the presence of the Theotokos. This chant was composed by St. Nectarius of Aegina at the end of the 19th century. Definitely one of the most beautiful Orthodox chants I have ever heard, apart from the Hymn of the Cherubim. I also love the rendition of this chant (Agni Parthene - Oh Pure Virgin) by Divna Ljubojevic. Angelic voice from Serbia!

Agni Parthene (Greek: Ἁγνὴ Παρθένε), rendered "O Pure Virgin", is a Greek hymn composed by St. Nectarios of Aegina in the late 19th century, first published in print in 1905. Although, as one of the men said in the video, it sounds like a very very old hymn, written centuries ago. I remember once, years ago, I was in church, waiting to receive antidoron, and the chanters were saying this hymn. I couldn't hold my tears, I never felt like this in public. It was so emotional. Of course, it became my favourite hymn. And Petros Gaitanos' voice is out of this world. Pure Byzantine!
