English man who has lived in Vilnius for two years (my Mrs is from here) and wow, criminally underrated is the perfect description. Especially in England we are brainwashed to believe our country has it all, and especially Eastern Europe has nothing to offer. With this exact mindset when visiting Vilnius for the first time I couldn’t believe my eyes and felt like I’ve been lied to my whole life. One of the greatest things about the city is that it’s a hidden gem, never busy with tourists a real chill vibe. So selfishly I sometimes want to keep it hidden It’s always hilarious to see my friends / family’s reaction when they visit with my same old English mentality. Truly one of the nicest city’s anywhere it has everything, and yes, the food quality here is top! One theory I have for this is the small population and small amount of tourists, meaning if a restaurant is average, they simply wont survive due to the small customer base. So every restaurant goes above and beyond, not many tourist traps, and the food is cooked with passion at great prices Lastly it’s amazing to see how proud Lithuanians are, I’m excited to show my Fiancé this video as it will make her so proud to see little Vilnius on the map ! Hats off to the insanely high video production 🤝🏼

Interesting video, you did a really good job of highlighting what Vilnius has to offer. One quick clarification - there was large scale Jewish emigration from the region to North America in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bagels were already popular in NYC and Montreal for a while before WWII. And unfortunately most of the Jewish people in Vilnius during and after WWII were either killed or deported. Saying they fled seems like a gross misstatement of history.

Be honest, doesn’t the food in Vilnius taste a little bit bland? I would say, Vilnius has a lot to offer, and it has many beautiful places, but there’s a lack of taste when it comes to food. The restaurants and cafes look great, almost algorithmically perfect (like the ones in Pinterest), but there is no authenticity or identity. The food itself often lacks depth and character. You eat it, but it never gives you that satisfying climax; it doesn’t make you moan with delight. Most places seem designed to look appealing and serve quick, Instagrammable meals, relying heavily on sauces to create an illusion of flavor. The result is food that looks good but feels generic and uninspired. Even some of fine dining restaurants! Some serve the food that is just forgettable. Only a few restaurants in Vilnius seem to have their own unique identity and offer genuinely memorable culinary experiences.
@attachetravel28 күн бұрын
That's an interesting observation. I didn't see too many of those instagramable moments in Vilnius but that's definitely a global trend.

Well don’t call it ‘accessible to everyone’ please. If you are in a wheelchair, sadly you will be left out of visiting 80%+ of those places. None of the 3 new Vilnius Michellin star restaurants are accessible. It’s bizzare that we celebrate a city/national achievement on stars leaving a portion of our population out of it. To me - this example best illustrates the overall situation in the country

As someone who lived in London, Lithuanian food scene is absolutely ass. Sure, top end 1918 might be amazing, but it's like €100 for the taster menu. The rest of the food you covered was national dishes which are nice, especially cold beetroot soup. That's my favourite and it deserves all the praise. However, at the end of the day casual, normal, every day restaurants and fast food spots are so bad. No creativity in the dishes, every spot mostly has the same pork meat chop and chips and salad which is just chopped cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce next to each other. And fast food is mostly just kebabs. After couple weeks it all gets boring.

Lithuanian Dutchy invited jews when they were prosecuted in Spain etc and many were welcomed and found their shelter here.
