Trust reverer is not a power back unit which will be using only at the time of landing to reduse the speed of aircraft. It's actually the break of aircraft. No commercial aircraft has reverse gear system. But in some military aircraft has this system. As you said the Main reason is safety issue and maintenance cost is the second reason. Engine blades are arranged to deliver air to the back side only. If you need reverse thust we need to change the angle of all the blades which is more complicated. This is just a breaf. Just ask with any AME for more info. Shijo AME student. Thanks

its probably because, normally in all vehicles, the engine will be connected to the tyre using rod and axils, but in flight it is not like that and the tyre moves only using thrust of the engine.. and as u said the reverse thrust is not safe for the engine as it is not meant to made so..

An engine is decided to go forward and backward i think. So how can engine get damaged in reversing? Even if the engine or plane going frontward the objects can get thrown away by the engine force. Why there is no video surveilenance inside the cabin so pilot can take the security measures against hijacking etc?
