For me the best album Burzum ever did, it's a masterpiece of atmospheric black metal, it's dark, painful and at the same time beautiful, again, it's a completely masterpiece.

Varg Vikernes (nowadays known as Louis Cachet) is a controversial person without doubt! But he is a musical genius as you can hear in this epic masterpiece! And BTW: I like guitars which are sounding like circular saws! 😊🖤

Really conflicted about this song. This song and Vargs music got me through total deep depression, I knew his belifes at the time but I never agreed with them. But the pain he gets across in his music is so cathartic.

Calling things like they are, I’m not a religious person in the slightest, but I’d be willing to hear you preach (if you’re a priest) just because of your down to earth humanity. The fact that you guys are open minded enough to give black metal bands a chance from a musical stance really speaks volumes. Keep it up! Very interesting reaction video. I like the fact, that the hosts of the show can and are really into feeling and understanding the music. I have not heard this piece for 20 years, i am still astonished how deeply humane and touching and universal it is, how easy it is to let yourself deeply buried under this spell. i recommend everyone to listen it without understanding/hearing lyrics. Because the music is, what speaks about humanity, its universal problems/qualities... the story of human being.

This song is very atmospheric, has that medieval, going back to your pagan roots feel. He captured that in the song. I dont have to like Varg or his beliefs to recognize the guy's talent as a musician, being a musician myself. Being Black I never allowed my race or society's expectations of me to limit my individuality. Then again I never really fit in to begin with. I embrace the ancient history of various races of Africa. I know about Marcus Garvey, and the contributions we've made here in the U.S . I don't have knowledge of the other ethnicities within my bloodline. But I would embrace them as that would be a part of me as well, eventhough I'm mostly Black. lol I'm a metalhead we're usually pro-death and misanthropic jk. Good discussion on this song and topic. There's just something about this song. I consider it the best BM song of all time. Good discussion, overall, but Varg has a bit more of a nuanced understanding of race issues than you're giving him credit for. He has discussed how many modern Europeans, especially in southern Europe, probably do have some northern African, etc., ancestry in them, and pretty much all Europeans with dark hair and/or brown eyes have some. He accepts this and has never said that makes them not European, though. He also has discussed the available popular DNA tests, and their flaws that most people don't understand. They define the DNA of a country/region by the DNA signatures of people that currently live there, regardless of whether or not those people have ancestors from that region. I'm sure they somewhat get around this by removing DNA outliers when defining a region, but it still leads to inaccurate and confused results, which is part of the reason why DNA tests of this nature are so inconsistent.

This is an old video but i must say "lost wisdom" is one of my favorite songs from burzum and i don't think you guys ever reacted to that one.. Give it a try! Varg was a lonely musical genius in his own special way, the atmosphere and emotion you get out of his songs is just unique.

Varg is not a "racist", "nazi" or a "white nationalist". He always criticised those ideas in his videos. But he does believe in barbarism, and that certain people are adapted to certain environments, honoring your ancestors, and that we should all return to a basic lifestyle.

That last line refers to modern day pagans/non-Christians growing up in the Nordic old Viking countries, surrounded by churches and state-Christianity, so that he declares that no matter if they should die in battle or be killed, it wont really matter, because they have never truly lived anyways, being born into these modern Nordic lands taken over by the Christians and Christian culture....so in essence, they have never really lived or Experienced their true native Nordic culture
