Vincent Neil Wharton (born February 8, 1961), best known by the stage name Vince Neil, is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist and occasional rhythm guitarist of heavy metal band Mötley Crüe, which he fronted from their 1981 formation until his departure in 1992. Neil reunited with the band in 1996 and continued with them until the band's 2015 retirement, and again from the band's 2018 reunion onwards. Outside of Mötley Crüe, Neil has also released three studio albums as a solo artist - the most recent of which, Tattoos & Tequila, was released in 2010.
Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil. Mötley Crüe has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They have also achieved seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart (including 1989's Dr. Feelgood, which is Mötley Crüe's only album to reach number one), twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock hits, and six Top 20 pop singles. The band experienced several short-term lineup changes in the 1990s and 2000s; these included the introduction of vocalist John Corabi (who was Neil's replacement from 1992 to 1996) and drummers Randy Castillo and Samantha Maloney, both of whom filled in for Lee following his departure from Mötley Crüe in 1999; he returned to the band in 2004. More recently in 2022 guitarist Mick Mars announced his retirement from touring with the band, with former Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 taking his place on live duties.
In late 1984, Finnish hard rock band Hanoi Rocks was on their second American tour and their first to reach California. The two gigs meant to be held in Los Angeles sold out in only twenty minutes. On the day they arrived in Los Angeles, December 8, Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley and the other members of the band (with the exception of singer Michael Monroe, who was recovering from a fractured ankle) visited Neil's home and spent the day in Redondo Beach. After partying for hours, Neil and Razzle decided to visit to a local liquor store in Neil's De Tomaso Pantera. Neil, who was drunk, lost control of the car and hit an oncoming vehicle. The two occupants of the other car were seriously injured and suffered brain damage, and Dingley was killed. Neil was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the crash. His blood alcohol content was 0.17, well above the California legal limit at that time of 0.10. In September 1985, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Edward Hinz Jr. sentenced Neil to 30 days in jail and five years' probation. Neil was ordered to pay $2.6 million in restitution to the victims of the crash and undergo 200 hours of community service. Neil was paroled after serving 15 days in jail for good behavior; Mötley Crüe dedicated their third studio album, Theatre of Pain, to Razzle.
Nicholas Charles Dingley (2 December 1960 - 8 December 1984), better known by his stage name Razzle, was the English drummer of Finnish glam rock band Hanoi Rocks from 1982 until his death.
He was buried at Holy Cross Church in Binstead, on the Isle of Wight in 1984.
Neil dedicated Theatre of Pain, Mötley Crüe's third studio album, to Razzle. In 2015 Neil admitted to Ultimate Classic Rock that he wrote a check for $2.5 million to the courts, so he only ever served 19 days of a 30-day sentence for the reckless death
Neil's account of this event, while contradictory to witnesses accounts, is documented in Mötley Crüe's 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band. Max Milner portrayed Razzle in the 2019 film adaptation.

The fine Vince paid was for the victims in the other car. Razzle's family didn't receive one red cent. I saw an interview of Vince saying himself he got off easy and felt guilty about it. He also said he thought Skylar's death was his karma. Out of Motley Crüe, Mick is the most stand up guy. I believe Vince has a bigger heart now and still suffers the guilt of killing Razzle. I like Vince a whole lot better than Tommy. I can barely stomach Nikki at all.

I knew Razzle well right from his days in The Fuck Pigs, Demon Preacher and The Dark. I remember when he was offered the gig with Hanoi Rocks. He was best mates with my mate Adam. We used to hang out quite a bit especially in The Marquee Club and Gossips in Soho. Great times especially for a young punk rocker who was fresh outta high school hanging out with members of Hanoi Rocks. One surreal moment I always fondly remember was being at my dads playing my guitar when my mate Adam, Razzle and Nasty Suicide turned up, we were probably going to The Marquee or 100 Club or similar. I always remember Nasty raving about the tone I was getting from my Leo valve practice amp. I lost touch with my mate and Razzle at the time of his death but I remember my mate being devastated it was extremely sad news Razzle really was a very placid unassuming lovely bloke.

Glad you're still here also 🤗 it's scary, been there when another intoxicated friend was driving us all back he from a concert, I sat in the middle seat trying to help them drive, they kept saying I'm not drunk, in the back of my mind I knew differently and had to help because there where others in the vehicle drunk, so one by one they all got home safe, now it's just me over to the passenger seat, as they got me home safe I had asked if they wanted to crash at my place until later that day or eat something and relax until you sober up, they said no I'm fine, well it wasn't fine, they where hit Head on by another drunk driver on their way home, that driver wasn't killed but the person driving us all home did, the drunk driver that killed him got away with no time, because they thought because my guy was drunk and hey caused it and not the other dude since his blood content wasn't as high as for the other dude's.... My Nan got cleaned up by a drunk driver who crossed the median strip and hit her head on. It was in ‘64, and although she was lucky to survive she lived with the physical consequences of that accident for the rest of her life. I was 18 months old when it happened and 33 when she died..30 years of unnecessary suffering for one bloke’s bad choices. What a tragic story it's like my friends daughter who was 20. 2 years ago she was back seat passenger in a soft top with top down. The driver was fine the other passenger was seriously injured but recovered while keegan my friends beautiful daughter was killed instantly almost cut in half. The driver has only just gone to trial as he pleaded not guilty. It went to court last month he then pleaded guilty so waiting for sentencing in a few weeks. Now the driver was still aloud to drive no jail time no fine still waiting for justice. Something should be done to the drivers who cause death or serious injury shouldn't be allowed to just walk and carry on with their lives having taken other life. Anyway I shall stop there. RIP Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley. I was a HUGE Hanoi Rocks fan. I discovered them through GNR. Izzy made his stage image after Andy McCoy. Edit: not one dime of the restitution went to Razzle's family. I saw an interview where Vince says he still feels guilty. Sharise was pregnant with Skylar when this happened, and Vince said he believes Skylar's death was his fault too. He said it was his karma for getting off so easy. He also said that he didn't ask Doc McGhee to fight so hard for that easy time, but he didn't reject it when it was handed down. He had to stay sober during tours as Tommy and Nikki were shooting heroin and ridiculing Vince for having to stay clean. He eventually couldn't handle it and started drinking again, but he never did heroin. Andy McCoy gave Nikki the shot that made him overdose. Nikki wasn't hit with a baseball bat, nor thrown in a dumpster. Andy did CPR until the ambulance arrived. Andy left when Nikki showed back up and told him he was stupid. Most of his life he was a children church pastor and never drank. My younger half sisters never knew about what happened till decades later. I always knew but Mom ask me to never talk about it, so I never did. But others around at the time including my real father all told me my step father wasn't driving, his gf Jackie was and recently discovered she was pregnant. So he took the rap. Maybe he didn't talk about it because he didn't want to lie or blame..idk. Neil didn't only thwart accountability- he continued a reckless lifestyle. Young people make mistakes I know I was reckless at times, so just grateful I never hurt anybody. But to kill somebody and continue such mistakes is something I can't wrap my head around.

He doesn’t give a damn and I don’t care his daughter died, he’s taken enough lives in one night. He just needs to realize you took two young peoples lives that now are vegetables basically you took their lives away by your stupidity. I don’t see him ever giving a Damn about those two young kids, it’s always his daughter who passed. I understand it’s sad but how many lives did he destroy in one night

Awesome job again, Scott. I was never that into Motley Crue so I guess I never digested this story when it originally broke back in the day. But I love your take on it, and I can't agree with you more. I've been in a few car accidents - and the way you describe the "explosion" and crunch, etc - it immediately took me back there. Fortunately for me and those involved - it was mostly "minor" accidents, but serious all the same. Anyway - thanx for the story and interesting facts. Take care, my friend.

I like motley Crüe but not so much these past years since I’ve grown up. I realize they’re egotistical jerks and just horrible people. They also can’t close their mouths especially Nikki. I thought they were cool as a kid but now I’m 27 and I just realize they’re not good people, better rockstars to appreciate and admire. These motley boys are drunks, druggies and womanizers like don’t have to be a pig with women. No respect for people these clowns. Lost respect for them years ago when I realized how stupid they are, especially Vince and the crash.

This is one of rock’s saddest stories, and Vince Neill got off lightly, but living with the knowledge that people died or had their lives forever changed for the worse because of you can’t be easy. You can only drink so much of that responsibility away. Razzle was a really special human being….can’t say the same for Vince.

'I'm a living wreck, I live in Tooting Bec!' - Razzle RIP. Hanoi Rocks had a song called Tragedy, a song called Dead by Christmas, and a song called Malibu Beach Nightmare. It happened between Xmas & New Year, it was Redondo, not Malibu, but it sure was a tragedy.Vince Neil swore he would never do it again. But Vince Neil is a serial DUI offender. The drive was 2 minutes, maybe could have walked it, or got a cab? Michael Monroe split the band up, he felt the band was never the same again without Razzle, unfortunately Vince Neil never really learned his lesson, I am sure he regrets it, but he never really served his time either., HOABL

Scott, I had a visceral reaction to this video. I remember the first car accident I heard to this day. It was about 40 years ago. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt. I do remember that I heard the loudest out of place bang. I knew what it was and I ran around the corner to the accident scene and saw a car had hit a light pole. I called emergency services and the lady driving was okay. In 1993, a girl I went to high school with had came from college and brought her best friend back to my hometown for the Christmas holiday break. They decided to join her brother and his girlfriend for a night out. Unfortunately, the brothers girlfriend chose to drive drunk. They skidded on the icy roads and smashed into a tree. Both of the girls in the back seat were killed instantly. The brother in the front seat had life changing brain trauma. Our community is still struggling

ToP came out the summer of '85. The crash happened half a year before its release, although the court case concluded two months after ToP hit the shelves. Vince's actions killed his friend, and left two other people with permanent brain damage for the rest of their lives. In his own words from his book, he said "you could tell they were very f-cked up." I can like the music, but fuck Vince Neil.

@@roxannemoser that's ridiculous. He was responsible for Razzle's death, and permanently injuring the other two people that night, but his daughter's disease had zero to do with Vince Neil's actions. Let him feel bad for those he did harm, not for his innocent child who had nothing to do with his terrible decision.

Hanoi Rocks reunited in 2002, released three new albums and one Best Of record, and finally disbanded again in 2009. They were extremely successful in Europe and had a huge following in Japan. They took their final bows in April of 2009 after playing 8 farewell shows on six consecutive days at Europe’s oldest rock club in Helsinki, Finland. Michael Monroe, their lead singer, continued as solo artist afterwards, less glam as before, but still a rock legend going strong to this day. Yet, in all those years, he made sure Razzle was never forgotten, dedicating songs to him during live performances, keeping his memory alive.

Not really a huge fine for one death and 2 serious injuries, one of whom permanently disabled needing care etc. After lawyers fees the victims didn’t really get enough, especially considering Vince could have afforded to pay a lot more
