The Vincent Audio SV-500 Hybrid Integrated amp is one special component. At $1299, and in black or silver aluminum finish, it is in a crowded market. Luckily, the mix of tubes on the preamp stage and solid state on the amplification stage provides an incredible listening experience that is hard to beat at this price range. Thanks to Vincent Audio's robust power supply design, this amp puts out bass with incredible control and richness, along with a very lively and entertaining soundstage.

Awesome review! Thank you. I was was on the fence about this amp until I saw this excellent review from you and so decided to purchase the sv500. I’ve been listening to this amp for a month now and I’m really digging the sound. My old amp is a Yamaha ax570 that I bought in the mid 90s that I do love, but has I few minor issues. I think the Yamaha sounds good and will do a A/B comparison here soon. But I could hear the overall sound quality right away when I hooked up the Vincent, it’s so good. I’m also listening through mid 90s Polk Audio ls50 towers. I’m a rock guy what can I say. Thanks again for the awesome video breakdown, well done!

Great review. It is a magical sounding amplifier. I couldn't quit thinking about the amplifier so I went ahead and ordered it , from California. I've had it maybe a week , I can hear it loosening up and settling in to it's sound. Running records thru a Vincent 701 Phono stage , S-booster power supply , Wharfedale Linton's , Emotiva RS 11 sub. Sounds pretty darn nice. Enjoy your show ! Update ; I ended up returning the SV 500. Put the Primaluna Prologue integrated back on the stand. I love the sound of the Vincent , the solid state is fast + precise , the tubes add just the right sweetness , very nice machine . If I hadn't bought the Prologue 1st. , Pretty sure the 500 would be staying . No amp is gonna be perfect. I like the way electric guitars sound through the 500 , the tube Prologue is less "sharp" with the attack . But the 35 watt Prologue is BiG in presentation. In fairness, the Prologue was almost double the price. Still give the Vincent a high score.

OUTSTANDING product ! has that tube warmth sound with SolidState amp features and response. The DAC is great, better than most of the digital output coming from most components out there. I have my sangean HD digital tuner on one input, Teac dcp650 cd player + ipod dock. Honestly I wish there were more products like this... reasonable price, has features that satisfy most people and sounds fantastic. I do not care about records anymore (sorry love the clean sound of CDs and hi big mp3s) but if you can add a record preamp if you need it.

I am SO glad to find this deep review of the Vincent SV-500. I bought one a few months ago (replacing a Marantz 8005) after reading about it in an ubiquitous sales catalog and the few written reviews . The first question this video solved was whether the volume control light was supposed to be on or off during normal operation. I noticed the light popped on as soon as you used the remote - just like mine. Glad to find out that's correct operation! Every photo of the unit shows the light on so I thought it might be a defect in my unit. The speakers I'm currently running with the Vincent are Elac Debut Reference DBR62's. I owned these before I bought the Vincent and my online sales rep thought this would be a good pairing for my small listening room. First listen was less than wonderful and that brought me into the wonderful world of dealing with the room (speaker placement and wall treatments). I'm still working on the room, but I'm wondering if you might have any favorite suggestions for compatible speakers (my latest on-line speaker 'lust' are the various Tekton Lores because I grew up with JBL-100's). Again, I'm so glad to find this review. Thanks.

Honestly it's tough to say because it varies so much with the room, what you listen to, and your ears. I currently use the SV-500 on Bowers and Wilkins 606 Anniversary Edition bookshelf speakers and it's incredible in a smaller room. They need a little space off the wall though.

If you can get to audition Vincent equipment,....DO IT! They offer outstanding performance. I had a pair of the SPT100 hybrid monoblocs in a system once and regret selling them. I was actually in the audio distribution business at the time in the UK and had a dealer in Denmark that sold very high end equipment but also carried Vincent gear. He would do regular blind listening test evenings for his customers and many were upset that Vincent offered almost identical performance to much higher cost equipment

Love how you also focus on the ‘small’ things like humming sounds. These things can really bug me and even made me switch away from my tube amp. Therefore, looking for a hybrid to combine the best of both worlds. Any reason why one would need to switch to a sv237(mk2)? Jay named that the amp of last year, so you’re both pretty enthusiastic about the range.

I've owned this amp for over a year now and I am completely satisfied. I use Paradigm Studio 80 speakers, a Phase Tech. 12" sub, and a Cambridge Audio Azur-640C CD player. The C.A. CD player's big feature was a DAC for each channel, yet when I run it thru the SV-500 DAC with a home made co-ax cable, it sounds better. The Paradigm's like power and the 50 watts per channel is enough. To my ears the amp gives digital more of an analog sound. The best way I can describe the sound is LUSH! One other strength is that it sounds good at low volume. Must be the tubes I guess.

Follow up from 1st post. I bought a Parasound NewClassic 2125 v.2 amp from Audio Advisor. It is high current, 150 watts per channel. Had great reviews. Used the SA-500's preamp with it. Did the break in and all that. My system definitely sounded more powerful, louder, more bite. After 3 weeks the Parasound went back in the box and back to AA, (good return policy). The SA-500 sounded better as a stand alone. Unless something happens to it, I'll die with this amp....at 68, that's not much of a stretch.

Thanks for the excellent review on this unit. have been using a Marantz HD-AMP1 with my Wharfdale Denton 85ths for a year or so now. Although I am generally pleased with its features, I feel like my Dentons might not be reaching their full potential. In comes the SV-500, amongst others I have been contemplating. It sounds like it would be a good match potentially and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the pairing. They are 88db, at 4ohms. But I am also wondering how I would i might hookup a subwoofer to this unit? Just use the Preouts? Thanks!
@GadgetryTech
@GadgetryTech 3 жыл бұрын
You could use the pre-amp preouts for variable volume output for the sub. It's going to send the sub full range so hopefully you have a good crossover on it. Regarding the Wharfedale speakers: Even though they aren't the most efficient I think the power output from the SV-500 will be more than enough to drive them. It will certainly get some good bass out of them as well. The only potential drawback is the liveliness of the amp mixed with the brightness of those speakers. They speakers will definitely have a lot of energy too them, but the SV-500's smoothness should help keep them in check a bit.

Thanks for the insight. I have had my sv-500 for almost a week now. Love the sound. Nice Soundstage, transparent, smooth but also dynamic. It is a lively sound that does come out on the bright side on some recordings with the Dentons. I turned the treble down a notch to help. Overall, I am pleased but wonder how it might pair with a mellower speaker. I will have to keep wondering though as my wife might just kill me if I being anything else home. Thanks for the tips!

I bought a used Ares II a couple of weeks ago and have used it with my SV-500. I was running my Audiolab 6000 transport thru the DAC on the Vincent before. I guess I'm one of the few that didn't care for the sound as much with the Ares II. I found my system to be less engaging, kind of boring in a way. However I very rarely sit right in front of my speakers to listen, so I'm not all that concerned about the soundstage. Maybe I'm missing something, but at this point I.'m back to listening thru the amps DAC. I do remaster/re-equalize a lot of my Cd's to (what I think) improve the sound.

I appreciate the info - it's interesting to hear your take on the internal DAC of the Vincent. At one point I tried the Bluesound Node for streaming and DA conversion - and I ended up going back to a cheap Audioquest Streamer for streaming and using the DAC in the Vincent. But I hear everyone say that the DAC isn't that good - I don't know!

@@timsdeskontask3958 I've heard the same thing, not sure how to gauge it since I don't have any experience with more expensive gear. I had a Cambridge Audio Azur 640 CD player. One of it's main selling points was a separate Wolfson DAC for each channel. When I bought the Vincent, (On a recommendation from an Audio forum request) I didn't even pay attention to the fact it had an internal DAC. After hooking up my CD player, I made a homemade co-ax cable just to see what it would sound like thru the Vincent's DAC. To my ears the Vincent's DAC easily sounded better. After a few weeks, I removed the RCA inner connects. Last year I bought a Parasound 2125 V2 - 150 watts/channel, high current amp. Used it with the Vincents pre-amp. With the extra power, how could my system not sound even better. It didn't, just the opposite. After 3 weeks, I sent it back to the retailer. Maybe the DAC and the amplifier section and the rest of the components used in the Vincent just match up well with each other. I agree with the reviewer that there is something special about the SV-500. I used to not like the sound of digital. With the Vincent, I very rarely get tired of listening to it. Someone needs to start a movement in the audio world called "the SV-500's DAC ain't that bad".

No I guess. The guy who bought this Amp from on eBay said Magnepans require a lot of power. So he sold Vincent to me and bought something else.

Mate, Love your enthusiasm and sorry to burst your bubble. Look up Shengya and Kavent, two Chi-Fi brands. Not saying that's a bad thing because I have a lot of respect for modern Chi-Fi as its called. But I wonder if your review would have been so enthusiastic if you didn't think you were reviewing a German brand.

No worries! I know a lot about the back end and supply chain stuff. Vincent is a German brand but that doesn't mean it's all built in house. I don't care where a product cones from of it sounds good/performs well.

Thank you for the great review. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Vincent reviews around. Do you have any experience with either Klipsch RP-600M or Wharfedale Evo 4.2. How do you think SV-500 would perform with those speakers?
@GadgetryTech
@GadgetryTech 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I know, I was shocked to find so little about these amps online especially considering how much I liked it. The RP-600M is quite a lively speaker. With this amp music will really attack the room. The amp is fairly smooth but not laid back so don't expect a lazy/subtle sound, especially when paired to the 600M. I haven't demoed the Evo 4.2s in person before so it's tough to say how it would go. From what I've read about them, it should sound pretty incredible paired with the Vincent amp.

No problem! Keep in mind the Wharfedale speakers can be very sensitive to placement in the room, including height, distance from wall, and distance from each other. They are great speakers but not a simple plug and play setup

@@GadgetryTech Thanks again mate. Good to know that they need some special care with placement. I don't have the best room in terms of speaker placement so it is a much appreciated advice.

Hello Karen Duma, I have a Vincent SV-500 Amp in black color for my Wharfedale EVO 4.2 Bookshelf speakers connected with Canare S411 Speaker Wire + Nakamichi Connectors. Love the clean smooth sound and the Amp is very powerful especially when you are watching shows like VIKINGS it delivers an impressive performance. It can rattle the Apt living room w/o a sub. Music listening is very pleasant sounding. I also bought a Wharfedale Center Channel 4.C for my Polaris 4K Projector along with YAMAHA TSR-700 AVR which is waiting to be hooked up. Let me know if you need any info. Hope that helps. Thanks

Hi. How about reliability? There are some opinions that these amps like to hum and capacitors aren't the best in preamp section. Chinese have still the problem with it. Overall it's very good stuff considering relation price- quality.

I ran it for about 8 months for multiple hours a day before doing my review. They powered JBL speakers, DefTech bookshelves, Bowers 606s, and Alta Audio Alec towers throughout this time. I never had performance issues with the amp, and it sounded amazing the entire time. With the tone board disabled it's silent.

There is a little bit of hum on mine but i done think its working well with my older power amp. I will be getting a new power amp soon and hopefully that fixes the problem.

Congratulations for your sincere and complete review. I am a proud owner of a SV500 unit, pls. do you know how could I connect a sub?
@GadgetryTech
@GadgetryTech 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Use the preout on the back. It’s variable and uses the tube preamp stage. Then just use the crossover on your sub to dial it in. Start with your sub volume low of course and go from there. Good luck!

I have a vincent A 129, early model. Cost £699 back in 2005 when new but I bought it on flee bay for £150. Just auditioned an amp at £2500 and one at £5000. What can I say, both amps are very maginally better, but not a lot and wouldnt be worth me upgrading to one of those amps. I was chuffed to bits about the performance of the Vincent. If I need to upgrade then Vinvcent will be the way to go for me. The performance far surpasses its price point, mine is also 50 watts, the soundstage is very big and they drive my Wharfedale EVO 4.2s well.... If you can get to audition any Vincent go do it.......

Still an amazing value. Might be due to production constraints and availability. Either way it demos well even against $3k amps I've listened to on the same source.
