VINCENT LOPEZ and His Orchestra, "Beyond the Blue Horizon" Paramount 1932

Released(?) April 26, 1932, reviewed by Mordaunt Hall August 22, 1932; here is Vincent Lopez doing a lovely version of this song. Note that the footage is lifted from Paramount's 1930 film "Monte Carlo" where "Beyond the Blue Horizon" is performed by Jeannette MacDonald. The short opens with "I've Been working on the Railroad." This was recorded off-air in 1979 to Open-Reel EIAJ. The tape is now in very ragged condition so I do apologize for the dropouts, but I've never seen another copy of this film.

As a kid I used to listen to an LP which featured a version of this song as the title theme, complete with train engine, track, and whistle noises

Since I was a child, I always wondered why my mother associated this song with a train. She never elaborated why. But seeing this now has finally clarified why she had the association! She likely saw this in between double features at a movie theater in her youth. Thanks ever so much for uploading this and solving the mystery for me!

Actually, the feature film "Monte Carlo" introduced the song. Jeannette MacDonald sings "Beyond the Blue Horizon" while riding a train, with shots out the window being the exact same ones as re-used in the Vincent Lopez short. Every stage performance of the song is usually accompanied by a picture of a steam engine and may include train horns and whistles. "Beyond the Blue Horizon" is an iconic steam engine number, almost on par with "I've been working on the Railroad," a bar of which may be heard as the intro to "..Blue Horizon."

Northwest Airlines brought me here. They used this song in their commercial in 1978. I always loved this song since then.

Always enjoyed gazing at those multi-runged telegraph/telephone polls alongside railroad tracks. In large cities way back when, they reached high as the sky.

A very nice interpretation. Jeanette MacDonald sang this in 'Monte Carlo' 1930, and it was also the song that ended the film, when she sang it with Jack Buchanan.

I believe the great Jay Andres said Vincent was the first band to do a live radio broadcast which took place in 1921! Cool!

Looks good for an EIAJ recording, unfortunately the Sony and Memorex EIAJ tape did not hold up well, while in my experience 3M did.
