Definitely didn't have Vincent giving a capybara a belly rub on my 2022 bingo but here we are! So while gators are native to Florida, capybaras are from northern South America and have been introduced to Florida and are now invasives. Capybara is derived from ka'apiûara, a Tupi (an extinct indigenous language from Brazil) word that means "one who eats slender leaves". Though my favorite addition to Gatorland are the Cuban crocodiles, not just because they're Cuban, but also how much of a machine they are with how they gallop/charge like a tank, and leap to catch their prey up in the branches above the water. It's a shame they're critically endangered because of breeding with American crocodiles and just competition from American crocs in general.

Don't blame you for thinking that emu is scary, considering Australia had a military operation against them in 1932 because twenty thousand emus were destroying the crops of WWI veterans who became farmers because they were given land in Western Australia by the government and were struggling financially because of the Great Depression.
