Salting the ground WILL prevent future growth bc it makes the soil less fertile- If sufficient salt is added, it will prevent plants from taking up water by osmosis, killing existing plants and preventing new ones from growing. although there are some weeds that are tolerant to high concentrations of salt like those found near coastal regions due to the salt content of the sea
@joseaesparza16 жыл бұрын
A surfactant is a ionic compound that breaks surface tensions . The soap breaks the surface tension of water and the hydrophobic membrane of the vegetation , allowing the weeding solution to enter the plant/weed drawing it in to itself. Just like absorbing water, it does not aid in the solution to cling to plant.

I have used this mixture many times and it works well. I saved a vinegar bottle and typically just mix it in the bottle. Add salt and about half the vinegar and just shake. Add dish soap and rest of vinegar. I use about half a container of salt since it is to prevent anything from growing in an area.

It's amazing what we r just now discovering that our grandparents knew ages ago, like vinegar in all its glory! Is that not the greatest thing since sliced bread? I keep a small spray bottle at my kitchen sink of half n half water n white vinegar with a touch of Dawn, it is great for rinsing hands while cooking, sanitizes counter tops, sponge and probably others out there might share what they use it for...back to weeds, I use water n vinegar in rinsing off veggies for salads n prior to peeling potatoes, etc, so the left over water/vinegar can help to clean drains n pipes, but I toss it on my brick path n it helps keep weeds down. Thanks for posting!

You don't want to add salt and vinegar since this disturbs the saline and acid balance. Use one or the other. Salt is the soils will not wash out over time as easily as vinegar. When using vinegar, there must be several applications over a period of weeks. The acidity levels of vinegar are what's causing an active plant killer. After several weeks, this will become more permanent. Chemical weed killers are far more expensive per ounce, build up toxins in the soil and wash into the water ways over time. Roundup is highly toxic to humans and all animal life.

This is the voice of experience. I have used this mixture to great success. Granted, if you only spray with a light mist, the foliage will grow back. However, if you permeate the soil the roots will be killed and future growth is greatly impeded if not completely halted.
