Well for one he (Obviously) wasn't using the gun the game was designed for. If you've got a good enough trigger finger and know the boss's weak spots, this game's actually pretty easy.

I remember this was a game in a place called Fuddruckers, and just seeing the cabinet freaked me out so much, I was up for hours thinking about the imagery that was for me at the time super scary. Nowadays, it looks so cartoony and ancient, I legit don't know why I had such a problem.

I remember going to Fuddruckers like twice in my life, both times as elementary school celebration trips, and it enraptured me just being able to load a burger up with Basically Fucking Anything. As for actual talk about Carn-Evil, I remember seeing it at a local mall arcade called Extra Lives. I never played it myself because I was terrified of it being just barely a teenager and heavily sheltered, but by god did it look like it had flair. Umlaut stood out in particular for me because I expected him to be the final boss and that he had some horrifying jack-in-the-box body by being a bloody torso stuck onto a giant snake-like spring.

I can tell Joel was playing on easy difficulty and didn't change the settings in the bios. Those bosses were nowhere near the bullet sponges they would be when you played in an arcade.

@@phil_matic It's a Midway game, so it'll be stupid unfair to begin with. But it's mainly the bosses that kill you, and there are spots with unavoidable damage. Notice there aren't any legit 1cc videos either. But I might be wrong, I thought Smash T.V. was impossible to 1cc as well but someone did that

If I remember correctly, CarnEvil is sort of in legal limbo right now. That's why you'll never see a home release or any other releases for the franchise because the franchise is pretty much gridlocked.

This reminds me of a similar carnival zombie game that was like "carnival of the dead" or something. a really generic looking zombie clown shooter. i watched the demo and intro a ton of times while waiting for my mom to finish up some bill stuff at the courtest counter at the grocery store(one of those bigger ones that had space for cool stuff like arcade cabinets while adults were busy)

When I was a young ‘un, my local Al’s Pizza had a CarnEvil arcade machine, but I was “too young” to play it. I like what I see. I hope Joel plays some House of the Dead games next. Those are my favorite light gun games of all time!

Man, I played this shit actually when I was like 7 in the arcades. I was so short I had to stand on my toes to see the screen lmao. Spent so much time watching that sick intro and seeing others play. When I finally suckered my mom into letting me play- I absolutely sucked. 10/10 would play again

so fun fact, apparently they actually got permission to use the rob zombie music. the cool thing about carnevil is that i think it was the first (if not, one of the first) games to actually use the pump action shotgun controller (the small one) as opposed to the standard pistol that required you to shoot off screen to reload.

I love this game so much. I remember I was the only kid interested in it, watching it in attract mode as the other kids wouldn't even touch it. The best part of it for me now is the bootleg Danny Elfman score (one song is almost exactly like the beetlejuice theme with the backing track in the foreground) and the knock off Rob Zombie song in attract mode.

This is a great Halloween game! Streamed it last year for Halloween and it was indeed a pain in the ass to setup. Cool thing is that a local arcade has an original CarnEvil cabinet.

17:09 You could reload just as fast as you are with CarnEvil, the guns had a pump action like a shotgun and you could reload by pumping the gun or by shooting offscreen. That would be this model 43:06 and not this one 43:12. That one with the red and blue guns you would have to shoot offscreen and I've actually never seen that one before.

Great memories of playing and beating the game in the Arcade room at the Food Court mall in Warwick RI before it got flooded in 2010. This arcade game believe it or not was suppose to be a Spinoff of Sega's 1996 The House of The Dead. Midway did a pretty good job with the voice acting and the insane meat core like a real scary arcade game should look like.
