Actually, a Sims: Bustin Out stream would be really cool, it's a weird ass game, like Sims but with a story mode, gba link support, and ridiculous save game sizes.

The funny thing about the -w is that its something that every Sims 2 player will tell you to do( better performance, higher quality image, better for storytellers in general ), and it *does* actually work lol

So there are two kinds of patches that you find often on the internet. There are many more of course but these are the ones that are important here. No-CD patches that let you play without an original copy of the CD (especially important in this day and age for digital distribution). These are usually super simple, it basically consist of making the program ignore or skip the check process (so it's basically patching an if statement). It usually ends up with a file that is 99% the same. The second is a compatibility patch. These tend to be much more complex, and involve things like patching deprecated dependencies. Like references to old libraries used with old Windows versions and stuff. This can make the file change a lot depending on what was needed to change. So Joel's patch had both of these patches. It lets him bypass the "CD protection" and has a compatibility patch. If you see, the original fil was ~300kb, while the patch is 2Mb. Basically he had two files, one that only runs with an original copy of the CD, and one that literally was tampered to work on anything newer than Windows 98.
