honestly i think a thing that a lot of "PS1 style" games get wrong is that their textures really are not crusty and low-res enough. while this game has lots of faults with its aesthetic by default, this weirdly has some pretty legit Goldsrc ass texturing and I appreciate that. but only sometimes.

@@tapehead3832 Yes, it existed. The point is that stuff wouldn't have been in the places we see in the game. I mean like, most people moved to push button landline phones by the end of the '70s. And polygonal 3D graphics for console videogames wouldn't be a thing until at least 1992. Before then they were all tech demos or relegated to arcades and home computers. And I don't think colour CCTVs were ever really a thing. We kind of just switched from black and white CCTVs to full colour digital security cameras. Especially the thing with the PC tower. Stores didn't start doing that until around 2004, when third party payment services that could handle credit cards via a Windows program started popping up. Before then you had either dedicated IBM point of sale machines, mechanical cash registers, or electrically operated ones that had eight digit LCD displays with a separate electronic card reader attached via a wire.

yeah its one thing to make a horror game with fucked up shit in it, its another if you do something that actually *PHYSICALLY HURTS* the player. Kinda why, despite me liking Puppet Combo's aesthetic, why i hate Nun Massacre and Power Drill Massacre.

I'll give Puppet Combo credit, some of their games might be schloky, but that's slso the point. Despite their short dev cycle, they've proven that with enough time they can make some very cool games.

@anarchyburger2655 maybe but at this point its so clearly a crutch for laziness, half the time it doesnt even bother emulating actual ps1 modelling. even puppet combo games or iron lung/squirrel stapler are pretty shit from a gameplay or scare perspective outside of loud noises or jumpscares you can completely miss after waiting for an hour or more, but people just cling to it because "low poly = scary" now. the lack of competence or creativity by just copying those regardless is more clear by the day. it's there in place of actual development or effort.
