This finally looks like an F-Zero inspired game that actually plays like F-Zero, so many feel so heavy and don’t have the snappy controls and fast-reaction gameplay especially from X/GX. Hope the project goes well and is successful

I think most of them tend to lean more towards Wipeout than F-Zero is part of your issue. Wipeout had physics that were much more realistic to a literal hover-rocket car than F-Zero, so the weightiness tends to come from that. I like both series though, so I'll take either.

X and GX have totally different controls imo. GX has that heavy feel and X has the smooth and responsive physics.

If EX Zodiac can carry on the true spirit of Star Fox, then I think Aero GPX can do the same with F-Zero. I have high expectations about these two and I feel they can achieve it. I never knew about Binty's time in college as a F-Zero GX expert. I wonder where all that skill went?

Myrone did the soundtrack for Drift Stage. A kickstarter game that never released and sadly died a slow painful death. From what little I saw of the game it looked amazing and the soundtrack is available on KZfaq and Spotify. It sounds very similar to this game.

I think what a lot of F-Zero clones fail to do properly is scale, i've had issues with scale with Wipeout and various other Hover Racer games but this game seems to understand the sense of scale of the ships to the track which is essential in my opinion hopefully this will have online

This actually blew me away! It looks great, love the art style, and the music is very good too. The gameplay also looks nice definitely in the spirit of F-Zero but it's got its own thing going and I appreciate that. I liked your college story about being a good F-Zero player, I'm proud of you Binyot. Thanks for checking out this demo Vin, definitely looking forward to seeing how the full game turns out.

It needs more stuff happening above the track to give a better sense of velocity, even dumb stuff, or a closed tunnel. other than that is great

I really love the Boost Power mechanic on F-Zero, and the fact that energy and boost is the same bar, it gives an amazing feeling to the gameplay, it drives better as you go faster but too fast and you have to be really cautious to not touch anything or else is instant death, that's the best high risk high reward i've ever experienced in a videogame ever. GX is so good that makes me think that Nintendo really has no idea how to upgrade a gameplay that perfect. I'm a huge GX fan too, i love what i see on this demo and i wish the best for this project.

I ran the room at mario kart 64 at a party in highschool. One of the kids at the party still friends with the guy I went with. A year or so back he asked him if I was a speed runner now lol. I wasn't THAT good, I was just the only one in the room that knew how drifting worked.

This game is based on F-Zero X which has vastly superior physics! Also, you should check out AX on the actual arcade machine or emulate it, as AX on the GameCube GX disc isn't the real version (it's different in a lot of ways and is missing some content)

It's funny you also mentioned the Slay the Spire tabletop game cause I backed both that and Aero GPX. lol I tried out the Tabletop Sim version of Slay the Spire a bit and the elements felt surprisingly well managed to me, there's a lot there but it's kept in separate pieces so you don't have to deal with everything all at once. (But that could also just be me since I kinda like having some fiddly bits to a game.)

I haven't seen this mentioned but one mechanic that I love about this game is that you gain boost on kill, I don't think Vinny realized it, but that promotes a very aggressive gameplay and really makes you feel like your "fighting" for first place.

I like that the boost and health are separate bars and have separate refill zones. The game looks sick and the soundtrack hits the right notes. I'm praying that Nint€nd0 doesn't shut this project down especially since they haven't done anything with F-Zero for years.

Although it lacks the grittiness of F-Zero, I think it’s doing a great job at giving us what we’ve been waiting for. I’m not a fan of the polished clean factory look, but I’ll take anything at this point as long as it plays well.

I have never played F-Zero and haven't really seen much of it outside of random clips within other videos, but watching Vinny play this made me realize that F-Zero and Kirby Air Ride share some similarities. Kirby Air Ride plays more like a slower F-Zero with a greater emphasis on its flight mechanics. Boy do I want another Kirby Air Ride game...

F-Zero X was actually the first game I ever played, little 3 year old me was somehow kind of good at it. Aside from the flying in wind and the health-energy split, this looks almost just like an F-Zero X graphical update. Rad

This game reminds me of Drift Stage, which is funny because Myrone did the soundtrack for *that* too. I reeeaally hope this doesn't go the way of DS where it's in development hell after releasing a demo something like 7 years ago now. What's here looks super solid, if a bit visually/audibly bare, I'm just glad the devs clearly went gameplay *first* and even then, the visuals are fuccin *nice* so far. Beats the crap outta the tired PS1 throwback style.

I'd argue that Grip isn't an anti-gravity racer given that those machines use wheels on the ground but I do agree that it is fun!

There are quite a lot of F-Zero clones. Everywhere from free to $60. Everything from F-Zero SNES style to F-Zero 64.

its tangentially related but Redout is a solid, high speed thrill that made me obsessed with it for like a whole week. back to this, oh man, it has a lot going for it. the camera especially and some of the tracks with the insane jumps and GX-inspired tube run segments. oh yeah its all coming together now.

This game is almost entirely based on F-Zero X on the N64 and not GX. GX physics were vastly inferior. Cylinders were also originally in F-Zero X!

God Bless Vinny for always checking out the best of new stuff: First SRB2Kart, then ExZodiac, and now Aero GPX EDIT: Turbo Force on Steam is not as visually polished but also is pretty cool and gets close to F-Zero as well; it even has a custom track workshop so it's possible so try some more stuff in it

Wasn't really sold on the music until I heard the one playing on the triple loop track. Overall the music is kind of hit or miss with me. I really prefer that style from GX (especially the character themes my god no other game will top it for me with that) Not really a fan of that overly simplistic look but when it's in motion it looks really nice and very close to GX in its sense of speed and scale. I like the wind tunnel gimmick they are going with. Overall this is a nice game and am glad someone is trying to carry the f-zero torch in some way since nintendo won't.

I think it needs more effects like the boosting effect from GX where it has electrical bolts going from your vehicle to the ground and like sparks when you’re grinding against somebody else’s vehicle or something like that And the music should go away harder, I think. The music is good already, but it lacks the high energy that F-Zero’s music does.

Too bad he didn't watch the tutorial video. He would have learned the spin is a defensive move and that the dash move allows you to defeat enemies and gain boost.

my fav game like this is extreme G racing. played it so much on the gamecube. want it to return. i also want another starwars podracing FAST neo racing, wiiu (RMX was the switch deluxe version) had such bad rubber banding AI. made the vehicle choice redundant.

To me, the big difference is whether or not the game includes items on the track.
