Knowing how it happens with stuff the fans want, it may sell lower than origami king, telling them the opposite message and then them saying "well, what we were doing did better than what the fans said they wanted, so we're not gonna go back as the sales speak for themselves" Hopefully it doesn't sell bad

@@mariotheundying TOK did sell more than 64 and TTYD combined, but TOK is on a much more popular console than either of the other ones. I do think it's a coinflip if people are willing to shell out 60 for a game they've already played, and likely emulated if they wanted to play it again the last 10 years.

*Prime 2 Metroid 2 was a Gameboy Game and it already got a remake on the 3DS. And an equally good if not better remake by a fan on PC (Not to speak ill of the official one, SR is still a great game).

@@snarkycrow I hope so! The original opening theme where it zooms into Mario’s house sounds kind of meh anyway. I know Paper Mario 64 is not being remade because they already have it as a Switch Online port (Reason why the OG SMRPG is not available as such), but having that theme be the opening for this remake would be a chef’s kiss!

I own the original not that hyped but thats mainly because the original still graphically holds up really well after 20 years. If theres nothing new I'll be satisfied watching a Binyot playthrough

Yeah the "HD" environments really add nothing new to the game. Also eagle eyed fans have spotted text differences so it might have been hit with some lovely censorship.

@@Binkusbigdaycensorship? The only visible text change is changing "Airhead" to "Lunkhead", which lines up a little better with the original Japanese script. If they were gonna censor something I'd think they'd censor the literal noose at the center of the hub area but it's still there, I think you're jumping to conclusions a bit too soon for that

@@MirrorHall_Claythey also slightly changed the vocabulary goombella uses in the rogueport plaza cutscene. It seems to me that they might just be re-translating the original japanese dialogue. That also implies that there might be some more impactful dialogue changes as the translators come across more taboo subjects, but imo it's too soon to make that kind of assumption

Vinny's mention of the "multi-tiered" paper look reminds me of how Sticker Star's official renders looked. a look that the game did NOT do at all and it was never a thing at any point afterward either. so its kind of funny its happening for a remake of a VASTLY better Paper Mario game.

Most of the direct was pretty okay, but THIS comes along and steals the show. So fucking pumped for this. TTYD is an amazing game with such a great soundtrack. The quick snippet of the battle music in the trailer sounded really good. I can't wait to play this again!

Best guess is it's because Paper Mario 64 is available to play on the switch through the Nintendo Online Service. Gamecube games are more likely to get remakes vs N64 games which will likely just continue to be added to NSO.

@@mfraye12 Oh, man, yeah I forgot Paper Mario 64 was already on Switch online. I actually forgot Mario Vs Donkey Kong and Super Mario RPG are *not* on Switch Online which explains why they got remakes. That would make perfect sense!

@@qtips1719 Do you even know what my opinion is? Because I don't think you do. I actually prefer the RPG system of the early Paper Mario games over the weird gimmicks of the newer ones. But that doesn't change the fact that too many of the other people who also think that acted petulant and self-entitled. Very few people who were vocal about it said "I like the old one better;" they said "This garbage sucks, just make a new game using the TTYD engine."

Nintendo has a choice to make regarding if they use the original Japanese lore for Vivian or if they use the censored US lore. Also the noose is still their, so the game looks like it will retain some of it's "edge" so to speak.

I just realized that the reason they stopped making Paper Mario games RPGs was because they thought it was redundant to have two Mario RPG series at the same time (the other being Mario & Luigi). Yet here they are remaking two Mario RPGs at the same time. Talk about reversal in policy.

Yeah, this whole trailer, as well as saving the announcement for last, felt like Nintendo saying "man, we are _so sorry_ for the last 11 years". Couldn't be happier. Hopefully, the game will sell well and Nintendo will release a proper new Paper Mario adventure - one that actually feels and plays right.

I love how the paper aesthetic is a bit more subdued for the remake. The recent ones have used a paper aesthetic as a cornerstone for most of its jokes and plot, even though it wasn't originally. The major theme of 64 and TTYD's visuals and environments is that they're pop ups, storybooks. They should have the appearance of paper but less of the paper mache stuff, more like cardstock and other materials used in a pop up book. People will be excited to enjoy a Paper Mario game that leans into telling a story first, implementing paper elements second.

Instead of taking risk with new titles they just gonna milk old critically accepted entries for that safe money from the people who already played (and probably) payed for it. In conclusion "remake of an remake for 90$" is a joke that with current trends soon we will gonna pay more for games we already played .

@@user-be3qc7re9o Honestly when it comes to Nintendo maybe it's good that they are making a remake instead of port or remaster, if it was latter they would still probably charge like for a full blown new title while doing less then staler job at improving expirience, but if Nintendo didn't suck at preserving their games I fully believe that port or an remaster could do smiler job at fraction of work required for a remake, work that could potentially go to making a new game.

You mean to say that the footage is 30 FPS, and it remains unconfirmed if it will retain 60 FPS. I see no reason why it wouldn't remain 60 FPS on switch.

@@joeykeilholz925 No, they showed other 60 FPS or at least more fluid things in the Direct (Super Mario RPG remake for example). Maybe they'll hit 60, but it strikes me more like they focused more on eye candy and reduced the frame rate, much like Kirby Star Allies. There's a lot of doubt in me now, is all I'm saying.

Honestly i like the original and it looks fine just the way it was. They could've made a new paper mario game instead :c
