Fun Fact: The first Ridley fight doesn't even have a health tracker. He tracks hits, not damage. If you use cheats or glitches to fight him with missiles or other beams, he still takes 100 hits to "defeat", no matter what weapon you use.

I vaguely remember hearing a story from one of the devs how in testing a tester managed to kill Ridley #1, so they upped its health. Again, someone killed it. After that, they just made it track hits and be unkillable.

Ahhhh, good ole Crocomire! The physical embodiment of hatred and vengeance. Someone I can relate to. Poor ole Krokomire, all he wanted to do was reside in bubbleland Norfair with the rest, then his room gets invaded by some freakish cybernetic human. Story of my life!

Hi-Jump was in the Maridia sand pit that Vinny didn't visit. You can type in the seed he spelled out for Hootey in the randomizer program and generate the "spoiler log" with Vinny's item locations.

Metroid Primus for N64? They went in a weird direction with that game - strange OST, questionable design decisions like the Cheese Suit and the Barf Beam, ugly environments, Metroid Primus sucks. It didn't sell very well.

pineapple surprise Actually, that was a typo from the localization. The Bark beam was the real name, as the localization team's only japanese-to-english translator was a homeless schizofrenic who was stuffed into a box crudely drawn to resemble a super computer and forced to translate japanese for three hamster pellets per word as sustenance. This practice is outlawed in most developed countries.

Too many powers and items are basically area keys in this game so it makes sense that randomizing fucks it too easily.

Not on Casual difficulty from my experience. Casual difficulty prevents that, and speedrunner makes you use advanced techniques. Masochist, though... You just need to stay out of spots that require another item that you don't have to get out.

i think its mostly just the morph ball, bombs, and suit upgrades the others can be worked around for the most part and the chances of getting super missiles, power bombs and missiles are pretty likely due to the amount of expansions everywhere.

does everyone suck at explaining mockball or something? theres more to it than just "morph before you hit the ground, don't bounce." You have to sprint and then jump, and while midair, dont release jump and aim down, then just before you land morph and quickly hold right again while still holding the jump button. It's pretty damn specific actually.

TheLegendofKirby Most people spell it "mockball" because there is the "speedball" which is the same trick, but with the speed booster. It's called a mockball because it's a "fake" speedball.

Vinny got me looking at the lore for the "Mochtroids." Apparently the lore is they are failed cloning attempts by the pirates. Maridia is such a strange area in the game, it feels and looks like something of a dead civilization to me, with it's brick building and what appears to be copper piping. No matter how many times I explore it, I always wonder if their is more to be discovered.

I know I'm late to this video, but I just wanna say I really like watching people play randomizers for the first time/casually. Speedruns/races are cool ofc, but there's something about doing this casually and without knowing all the intricate glitches and strats, it's enjoyable to me.

8:34 Usually a Missile right there, but also a hidden missile you have to bomb around for, so you totally just skipped another item. 29:43 ... Those reserve tanks wont come in handy, if you never pickup the health from the kills you make...

10:12 Yeah no kidding In Normal Super Metroid I know the location of every item and it still takes me 5 hours to beat the game. I actually 100% the game pretty recently but since I took so long I didn't get the best ending. 230 Missiles, 50 Super Missiles, 50 Power Bombs, 14 Energy Tanks, 4 Reserve tanks, Grapple Beam, X-RAY Scope, and Every Upgrade.

Star fox 64 randomizer - bosses can appear randomly items locations are randomized and some objects (like asteroids or other breakable objects.) are in random places too. Sometimes when you're on a on-rail section of a stage a all-range mode boss could appear. Maybe it would stalk you through the level like andross's final form. And your only objective is to reach the end of the level instead of fight any bosses at the end. And sometimes separate members of starwolf plus appear randomly or maybe sometimes teammates like Kat or Bill could appear in a stage.

Wilkwolf Personally, I liked the Virtual Boy port. The single static screen and respawning enemies worked really well with samus's unupgradable abilities. I also liked the Ridley fight at the end even though Ridley was only the same size as samus

You have to charge your beam then jump through Phantoon's fireballs to break through them properly.

Fun fact: In Randomized Casual, the Morph Ball is not always the first item you get. You'll get either that or the Screw Attack.

VINNY YOU ALMOST GOT THE QUICK KILL AT 1:18:53!!!!! After you shoot Kraids eye to open its mouth fire a super before it is opened completely because for some reason it prolongs the opening before shutting it to go into the second phase. You did it but you didn't get the easy part.

Vinny keeps calling himself indestructible when he gets the Gravity Suit but its the Varia Suit that cuts damage, right? Gravity Suit just allows movement in water and lava? Im probably wrong.

Kinkachuu Pretty sure they both halve damage, so that when you have both you only take 25% damage.

If Gravity is equipped, damage is lowered to a quarter. Else, if Varia is equpped, damage is halved. That's how the damage reductions work exactly. However, Mother Brain's rainbow beam and the big Metroid a bit before only check for Varia but not Gravity, which is why Gravity doesn't make Varia completely obsolete.

With some hex editing you can rip gravity's temperature protection which makes varia have more sense

In some games, the Gravity Suit provides more protection (albeit not as much as the Varia Suit, but it's protection nonetheless.)
