If they wrote this wonderful jingle, they were, indeed. I think that Nestle's does make the very best chocolate--Henri Nestle was a noted Swiss chocolatier.

One of my fondest memories from the early '60s television was watching Jimmy Nelson, Farfel the dog, and Danny O'Day with their memorable NESTLE QUIK commercials. Farfel's mouth would snap shut at the end, thanks to an unavoidable slip by Nelson when he was nervous, and his finger was sweaty from his tryout for the job..The tv execs loved that last bit, and urged him to keep it in the commercial. He made over 120 commercials for NESTLE. Nelson is pointed to as an inspiration for ventriloquists everywhere and the reason why many of them took up the art. Nelson was the last of the golden era of ventriloquists that included Edgar Bergen, Shari Lewis, Paul Winchell and Senor Wences. His career spanned more than 70 years. Nelson died at 90, after 63 years of marriage. @@robertsamson4610 I was very young in '56, so I don't remember that commercial shown in the video, but I remember the others he made. Farfel's mouth didn't SNAP shut, as it did in the other commercials I saw. Jimmy must have made a fortune with the stagering 120+ commercials he made for Nestle. I still have a Nestle QUIK chocolate box. Do you remember Bosco (chocolate syrup, I also used, and later Hershey's syrup), Bosco also from the early '60s? It was in a famous Seinfeld episode with George using it as his code word for the ATM machine! Hilarious.

I believe this was seen during the Dorsey Brothers' "STAGE SHOW", which was sponsored by Nestlé's in the 1955-'56 season. Jimmy, "Danny O'Day" and "Farfel the Dog" appeared in various filmed commercials for Nestlé's Quik during this period as well.

Suspense was a very huge part of all thrillers and horror films before the invention of cgi... It's where the musical score leading to the death in slashers and even jaws came from this was meant to build suspense. It's hard to explain really even if you know exactly what's about to happen the suspense of it would still lead the act to surprise and startle you because it built up your nerves. I'm not necessarily saying any of that has anything to do with this specific scenario but this is obviously an example of the suspense building your nerves and the act being inexplicably frightening.
