This is a good example of what was considered a starter mountain bike in the mid 90's built to last, but heavy.

I bought this exact same bike about ten years ago on CL for $75. I immediately upgraded many parts and commuted on it for several years and I also took it to Portugal for a month long tour. Recently I did a "restomod" to Deore 1x10, Hollowtech2, new Saddle, wheelset, etc, etc. I have owned many bikes, expensive nice bikes, and this frame rolls as well as the others. It is quite compliant and makes a perfect beater bike for basic transportation. Done right it is better than any new bike under $1000 or more

Yeah, ive been riding it around work tuning it up, and I do feel that it has a very nice ride, the frame and fork is forgiving and comfortable. The front end is very low, I may swap a fork out with a treadless headset to make it easier to get a riser stem and bar on there because I am not a kid and it hurts my neck and philosophy on riding position has evolved. However, the low front end is the vintage experience.

riding rigid with a low front end sure brings back the memories, some good, some going over the bars!

I bought mine back in the early nineties for $600 or more. I was 19 and it wasn’t cheap in my mind, I thought I really had something. Then someone stole it out of my driveway. I don’t think you deserve it after hearing all the insults you hurled at it, but it’s great that you got it for free. That’s usually the way it goes.

I am an elitist Klein collector only concerned with the finest and rarest components not bikes made for peasants

Any how, not being serious, it's all relative, it is a nice bike. But as a Klein collector I am supposed to thumb my nose at any bike with les pedigree. Thank you for your comment. I have since given this bike away. However not before I rode it around and discovered how well it rode and what a solid build it is. Will still be rolling 20 years from now.

@@kleinking364 I haven’t been on a bike since the mid-nineties when I lost this particular ride. Recently I’ve gotten the bug again and that’s how I came upon your video. I’m thinking of getting another peasant model but this time in the $2000.00 range. I’m interested in a gravel bike. Do you have any recommendations? I was looking at some of the Specialized models. I appreciate any suggestions you might throw to a pauper.

I totally recommend any of the older steel mountain bikes for the 90's than can be found for cheap. They ride amazing and are way tougher than the rattle trap and fragile aluminum bikes that we loved as kids because they were a little lighter. The Specialized are great, but popular and a little more expensive, so I would look for something like that Marin, or Kona, Gary fisher, etc

Marins are not exactly cheap...😅 Maybe they just looked cheap! At least not over here! Greetings from Croatia 😎

THats what you guys over the pond say, but while they did make a few nice bikes, everyone thought they were a little cheap and very common sold everywhere in California

@@kleinking364 I see... Nowadays Marin makes pretty decent and progressive geo bikes! And, I still can't afford any😅
