As you may or may not know, I am quite a collector of old vintage and antique art supplies. Over the past year or so I have managed to collect some more items and I thought it would be fun to share these, and show you a couple of the vintage and antique markets that we visited on our recent trip. I also swatched out some of the crayons and pencils I found, some I am pretty sure are older than I am. Are they any good? Let's find out!
If you have further knowledge of any of these items, I'd love to know! Please email me at nightrosephoto@gmail.com

This was so entertaining. I love that you included shop footage at the start and then showed your purchased items in detail. BTW, I always prefer my art supplies to be 'non-injurious'. 😂

Thank you, I'd filmed a whole bunch of random things on our holiday and this footage ended up being an entire video on its own, lol. I wonder when "non-injurious" was a common phrase; it would help me figure out a date on those crayons! I have yet to find an answer...🧐

Loved it. Being an old person, I really enjoy seeing younger people who appreciate art supplies that were around when I was a child. You done good! I actually cook with a cast iron skillet my father bought in 1909! Cowboys used sand to clean their pans. You might want to get some fine grain sand from a craft store and use it to remove some of the rust from it. Most people use cooking these days to season their pans. My dad always used the fat back from slabs of bacon. Yup I am that old!

We have a few pieces of cast iron cookware. Their biggest trouble is the weight of them, a frying pan weighs a ton! 😂

Ooh the biscuit tin is so cool and fancy!! I can’t believe how much things have changed. Many products these days aren’t made to last, but those old ones definitely were made to last a lot longer. I’m geeking out over the vintage Staedtler set haha. It’s fun to see the slight differences over time. It does look very 80s. And the vintage derwent ahh! This video is too much fun😂

It is definitely fun to see how products change and I am curious to see what they will be like in the future as well! 😊💜

The staetler set looks eighties to me. I probably have some similar knocking about! The tiny pot of leads are for a staedtler compass or dividers, I definitely have an eighties version of it, that is plastic so yours are maybe even earlier. The brass brush/pen rest is nice. I would clean it up too. A charcoal art piece would be good.

I didn't think of a compass but now you've said it, of course! That explains why the leads are shorter than ones which go in mechanical pencils! Thank you for that, haha! 😂

Aaaah, I LOVE that cast-iron cauldron! I have one of those cast-iron old-fashioned cooking stoves in miniature. It's my favorite thing ever. I love the box on the Flying Eagle Crayons. Those Derwent pencils were an awesome find (like you said). They also had a great box!

I am not sure what it is about cauldrons that appeals to me...I must be a bit witchy 🧙🧹 I do love a good box, and a metal tin is even more exciting! 😂

I didn't think some of my supplies were vintage, but I guess they are. My mother, 60 years ago ,bought me a set of Venice Paradice pencils. She told me they were expensive and to take good care of them. I did and still have most of them. They still work the same, the colors are the same. I got a good paint brush in 1964 and still have it and still use it. I think those crayons and pencils you got are infinitely older than you think.

I love how you have supplies that have lasted through your life! Yes I am pretty hopeless at putting dates on some of these things, they're purely guesses, haha. To think by very definition that vintage is more than 20 years, which means the year 2000 just fits into that category now! 😱

Awesome finds Becky! I love antiques and my art studio is filled with them - but to also find vintage office / art supplies is even better! Love the brass brush / pen rest and those last pencils you got. I also have to mention you inspired me with your restoration of the old metal paint palette; I found a vintage metal Reeves student box and since I already have some Rustoleum black and white paint on hand, so I am looking forward to fixing it up too! Thank you for your videos!

I was in Warnambool for the June long weekend. I was hoping to see some nice vintage stores, but I didn't come across any. It was a trip to see relatives, and reminisce about the summers we spent there as kids, and thus I just didn't come across anything like the Fletcher Jones market. I would love to find some art supplies in these stores too and also cool things to paint. 🙂

There were a couple of places in town but I couldn't say exactly where they were, or are....we tend to Google antique, vintage and art stores if we go to new places, to see what's around. 😄

Becky, I hope I'm not too late with this: please don't use Brasso on your pen stand!!! Wash it in warm soapy water to get the gunk off it and leave the patina - that's how old things should look - and I'd love to have it myself! I hate to see old things like this made to shine like new. It takes away all the beautiful patina of years. I'd put both the Derwent Lakeland pencils and the Flying Eagle as old as the 1950's - when I was a child using these things. The picture on the Flying Eagle makes me think it's even older, as it ties in with picture books I've seen (and inherited) from the 30's and 40's. Apart from panicking about the brass pen stand, this was a lovely video to watch. I loved browsing around these places back in the UK, and occasionally picking up things to use in my own work and my students' classes. Thank you. Bingeing on two videos in a row means I'd better go and clean up my kitchen - rather late (it's 10.25 pm here in France!)

Fear not, I haven't cleaned the pen stand yet! I was always planning to start out with a gentle clean in water with dish soap, to take off all of the filth. I generally don't want vintage things to look new, but there is always a temptation to polish up brass to a high shine. I won't be hasty in my decision though! 😆

Lovely work as usual Becky. Maybe you could reproduce the landscape on the Lakeland box using the pencils. I love your ink wells too. On the subject of the Night-watch I think I read somewhere recently that they had cleaned the painting and found out it is not night time a t all. Don't hold me to that though. Keep up the good work love watching your videos.

Hi Becky, have you been to the Antique market in Yarra Glen? I don't live far from there so it was my go to place for what I collected at the time. I wasn't in to colouring back rhen so I never looked for art supplies. Wonder what I missed back then! We have got some great markets in Vic haven't we😀

I have pencil crayons that are51 years old they are laurentiens ,I still use them and they work like the regular. Still has my maiden name on it. Never throw out to many art supplies . Lol I think that it makes me laugh when I hear that this art supply is out of date.

I love it when art supplies stand the test of time! Usually that is when they've been kept in good conditions and well looked after. Some of the things I've found are very neglected and I'm sure many items from vintage markets were probably kept for years in sheds or other places with too much summer heat.
