My grandmother was the senior executive secretary for a large insurance company from the late 40s until 1980. She oversaw a secretary pool that handled all of the agents. She was kinda like Joan from Mad Men. Not viscous (LOL) but no-nonsense. All the women in her division were sharply dressed with their hair done, makeup, and high heels. She made sure things got done right and on time! She was highly respected by everyone including the "Suits". As a kid, I remember going to the office with her sometimes and all the he secretaries had this device. I was always amazed how fast she could type, talk on the phone and look at me while typing, never looking at her keyboard! I loved her so much and with me being the only grandson, I "walked on water" in her eyes. She's been gone for 35 years. I miss her and still think of her.

Videos like this make me appreciate modern things that we take for granted, in this case Bluetooth headsets and speaker phone and just being cordless in general and not even having to be by the actual phone to talk on it. Most people today, especially those younger than 25, would lose their shit if we had to go back to one phone per household and you had to actually hold the phone to your ear in ONE ROOM ONLY to talk to people.

I have a landline. Only for emergencies, since we had a blackout yrs ago and the cell towers couldn't keep up with all the calls. My youngest uses it because I don't allow my kids to have a cell phone unless they can prove they are responsible and trustworthy. She is my sneaky one...lol I have a super long cord from back in the day when we had AOL dialup and I had a first generation laptop... Hahaha She has no idea that we have that as an option. I won't put it on the phone cuz I'm totally fine with her having to stand in one room while chatting with her friends 😂.

We had those phones when I was a kid. They were usually in the kitchen where women did cooking. My mom would be on her phone doing dishes but the cord was STRETCHED over the stove where it burned. We had to wait for mom to call the phone company to bring out a new cord. The cord regularly got ruined and you were w/o a phone while waiting on the new cord!

Black and Decker makes an iron called The Classic. It’s heavy like vintage irons were and gets hot, but not to the point of burning holes in the ironing board. It’s modern with a vintage feel. Hope this helps. When you used your nail to unscrew and screw the screw, all I could hear is my nail lady telling me that my nails were “ jewels not tools”! LOL 😆 Loving the hair! I used that shoulder rest on my work phone for a few decades; I retired in 2003 and used it to my last day. It made things so simple because I could answer the phone, make a computer inquiry, or reach across my desk for a report, or take notes, all while the phone remained secure and I had two hands free. No crick in my neck from trying to hold the receiver between neck and shoulder. It never occurred to me to use it at home, lol.

I have used a Black& Decker Classic Steam Iron all of my life. Originally in the late 80s, my grandma gave me her old iron and it was exactly this one from the 60s. They can be found on Amazon new so they won't ruin your clothes and you will have the vintage look. The Tele-Rest, oh yes! LOL! I am showing my age but I remember when I had my first office jobs in the 80s and they had these in many offices. My Grandma had one too. They were great for typing but kind of annoying for a short phone call when you did not need it.

Greetings, Laci! Fellow vintage lifestyler here. I recommend getting an X-Link device so you can use your rotary phone. The gadget pairs whatever landline it's connected to with a cellphone by Bluetooth so whenever you're in range you can both make and receive calls from the landline. I use it on my antique candlestick phone and it works just fine. I have had exactly the same experience with vintage travel irons heating up to the scorching point and beyond. For a vintage aesthetic iron, I recommend the Black & Decker classic. It's a fantastic iron. I've used mine for about six years almost daily.

I bet if the phone were on the table behind you it would be much easier. I remember these so well. Thanks!

Maybe so. I was trying to have it in picture, but that would probably work better.

I recently found this really cool item that will allow you to use a rotary phone. I’m not sure if you have heard of It but it’s called the Xlink Bluetooth Gateway. Essentially you connect your cellular phone to the Xlink using Bluetooth, then you connect the landline wire from the rotary phone to this device and it will allow you to receive calls!

Haven’t seen one of these in a while. They were usually seen in offices or anyone that had to write down notes etc.from anyone calling like customer services. It always looked clunky on the phone but it sure helped avoiding a crink in the neck! Great video and take care..📞 🇨🇦
