I suppose the good thing about the neighbors who share the driveway not chipping in is that you can ignore them when they complain that you didn't do it to their liking. If they pay in, then you'll have a requirement list of just how they'd want it. You're a good man, Marty.

Not trying to sound grim, but Marty IS the neighbour you want in the event of the great apocalypse, he can build free hydro power, fix all manner of mechanical faults, restore earth moving machinery, and is calm & resourceful under pressure... and make does in a rural setting, inventing tools & finding practical solutions. @@MartyT You should seriously have a talk with all of them over a few beers about making a co-fund that's purely for road maintenance (i'm unsure if it's exactly that way, but i heard there's funds that can be made specifically for certain purposes, and only the agreed needs allow the people tied to it to retrieve money). Kinda uncool in a way that it's all left up to you, we (9 families) agreed on ours that each two years an assessment is made and that regardless of any other things, a fund is made to deal with it. What sucks for us is we're not legally allowed to modify the road surface, we would've put a proper road surface by now...

A nicely constructed driveway always makes life easier. If you can direct standing water away from any road surfaces. Ditches, gutters and any kind of water retaining construct helps immeasurably, but knowing the direction of flow and possibly laying down a conduit for excess may solve more than just the irregular rain problems. A good rake could help bring up some old gravel and put your driveway on to a better direction as well. Not sure how much you want to do overall.😜

Neighbors, a blessing or a curse. Should look after each other, however, doesn't work out that way. Today, two boaters in a ragged sailboat, no mast, ran out of fuel for their outboard on the river in front of my house. Got them some fuel, made them two shear pins for their tiny two-stroke motor prop as they had broken theirs and had no spares (the outboard looked a proper mess but started easily and ran, amazing little Yamaha). Help your fellow man as you did Marty. Good job.

Making dirt roads is an art few understand. That base material you have is superb with its variety of aggregate. It locks together better than gravel of similar size. Dressing fine stuff on top makes it look good, but too thick and it will just become new potholes. Crowning is critical, especially on flatter sections. You are better off just driving on the graded original stuff and the fines will make their way to the surface when it rains, just like floating wet concrete. You have to be the best neighbor! Thanks for another great video!
