Date more likely late "teens" to eaarly 1920"s as several viewers suggest. Nonetheless, very old Hawaiian black and white film featuring early surfing footage - "KOLOHE BOY" ('ukulele) performed by Steve Racoosin. Most likely a composite film - a little from the middle "teens" perhaps thru early "20's" as viewers who know something about this time period in Hawaii have noted in comments. Thanking all who contribute. A tutorial now exists for those of you who wish to learn the 'ukulele tune on this video • Kolohe Boy 'Ukulele - ...

So lucky we can see this recording a century later. Mahalo to those who recorded it and who are probably no longer with us. There's no mistaking Rainbow Falls at the end.

Thanks for stopping by to enjoy this enigmatic nostalgic video even as it first appeared in early 2012 - with it's original 'ukulele soundtrack intact / flaws and all. In appreciation for all your support - allow me to simply state again . . . E pili ana na mele Hawaii he kanalua 'ole wale no ia penei - 'o ka Hawaii ka 'oi Aloha pumehana, (islandnites)

Thanks - possibly a composite film? A steamship named "Great Northern" also appears in the same footage at Honolulu harbor & it's last known trip to that location was year 1914.

The waterfall in the deep ravine is along the Hamākua coast on Hawaiʻi island, and the last waterfall definitely looks like Rainbow Falls, also known as Waiānuenue. Mahalo for the nice vid and ʻukulele solo! (Like some other viewers, Iʻd change your title to say "circa 1920s" since cars werenʻt as common in 1913 yet...)

I saw the Moana Hotel on Waikiki beach, surfing shots, one shot of Onomea arch (the coconut trees on the beach) downtown Honolulu, a shot of Kolekole from the train trestle, Umauma falls in Hakalau, then Rainbow falls in Hilo at the end.

The road lined with royal palms is actually Royal Palm Drive at Punahou School, not a private home. And it still looks substantially the same today, by the way.

@@jchyldresearch Tartaria mudflood. KZfaq channel my lunchbreak revealing the world was far more civilized 150-200 years ago than we've been told. I meal look at the structures here, power tool invented in 1893 and these are all here? Old-world style palace building. Queen Liliuokalani palce is clearly not just inspired by british monarchy but build by master masons before or early into Hawaiin invasion

Thx so much! Kolohe boy ('ukulele) is dedicated to Charlene A. Waiwaiole ( . . . the most beautiful Hawaiian girl of all time) But all Hawaiian girls are beautiful, aren't they? Anyway, glad you enjoyed - let me know if I can help with your request. Sheet music doesn't exist for this tune - but anything else I can do please let me know. Steve Racoosin (islandnites).

Mahalo for the nostalgia. It does look like Royal Palm Drive on the Punahou School campus and it's still there! Those electric train cars are long gone. Now the government is spending money on a train from Barber's Point to HNL airport. And the waterfall does look like Rainbow Falls on the Big Island. Punahou '64

Yeah, I was thinking it was likely this footage actually was shot at different times. The opening shot of Waikiki shows the Moana Hotel as it appeared after it was enlarged in 1918, but I'm sure there's earlier stuff too. Actually I believe the S.S. Great Northern traveled to Hawaii up till 1917, when it was put into service in the Atlantic by the US government after America got into World War I that year.

some refer to as the Irwin-Hederman estate because he headed up DLNR....another sacred place that disappered. I was up there a month ago... I don't think people are allowed because of the golf course there now...run down, not taken care of...baynon tree and walls overgrown along with the Queens bath...it used to be a royal bread basket...meeting place of the mahele...one strange state acquisition. Super fishy
