I was raised to work for every penny and give 110% for every penny. Great leason in life. Taught my kids the same values.

I was raised that way. My Dad had a dairy and we(3 of us kids) had to help to get everything done! My Dad milked cows twice a day 7 days a week! We also never missed church! We went to church Sunday morning and Sunday night! We also visited my grandparents on Sunday! I don’t know how he did it! That’s probably why he died at 71! He taught me really good lessons! I retired at 72 after being a hairstylist and owning my own little shop! I love to listen to you and I have learned a lot from you! Thank you for sharing and God bless you!

Love how the lace made the waterfall so delicate and elegant. If it hadn’t been for a lifetime disability I would still be working. I had to work for absolutely everything in my teenage years and 20s. If I didn’t work and contribute on the farm, our food storage would have been difficult and in short supply thru the winter. Grandpa believed a hard days work made an honorable man, so did my great grandpa on the dairy farm and he taught his children and grandchildren the same morals and values. The millennial generation especially the 2000s born unless they are raised by parents who grew up that way, have absolutely no idea what it means to put in an honest days work. In my experience “I have relic ideals and are not normal” when I ask the generation X about having pride in their work. They scoff and laugh at me. I seriously am saddened for the younger generations for they haven’t got a clue what’s coming in their future. Some don’t even know the basics of counting change, balancing a checkbook..I got told the other day blatantly that Montana must be in Asia because they couldn’t find it on the map, and that Andrew Jackson was just some old singer and not a part of American History. It literally made me feel sick and banking books, taking away rights and freedoms that our men and women fight and have fought for is not the answer either. Sorry I don’t mean to sound mean, it’s just sad to see what’s happening around us.

I started babysitting at 9 and worked after school and weekends a At 12 until 15 and from then on I worked with the public and in offices from then on...studied accounting after high schoo and loved it...ran an office for many years until my allergies and back injuries got too bad...from then on I worked from home ... arts and crafts ... at 76 I still am crafting and doing art...I just can't sit still....but can't walk well anymore so I am sooo thankful that I can do it... old school is the way my 4 big brothers were raised....thank goodness

You are so right about a person's work ethics. My Dad worked every day, no matter what (except when we had a hurricane in Houston). Although he provided everything we needed and most of what we wanted, I babysat for extra $. My twin sister and I didn't work after school because my folks didn't want to buy us a car, nor did Mom want to drive us to 2 different jobs or different schedules. I worked 55 years as my dad taught me, until I retired 3 months ago. Now I love watching your videos & paper crafting. Thank you so much for being there & talking to us.

I was raised to work for what you want. I babysat, worked on the muck cutting and packing cabbage, potatoes and onions.stacking hay bales in the mow and whatever else needed doing on the farm. Thats why my back gave out from all the bull work while growing up, but you learn to appreciate what you have because you earned it. 🙂❤️

Hi Miss E, love the waterfall journal with all that lace. As for your question I grew up rich but my mom didn't so she thought us to work for what we wanted. I am so grateful to her for my work ethic.

Yep! Everyone worked hard because it was the right thing to do. We were poor farmers. I am so thankful to have that background. So many parents feel that their kids and schoolwork. They shouldn't have to work for grades. I worry about these kiddos

My daddy taught me to work hard then work harder if you want to succeed. The only times I was given anything was when he came home drunk raising cane, then he would shower us with a gift each. I would’ve rather had peace but hey I learned a lot of values and morals behind those times too. Love this journal Edith, and just so you know I get tired too but that happens when your 62 almost 63 in August.

Another great video E, can't wait to make it! Yes I was brought up like you to work for what you want. We weren't poor, middle class I guess but we were taught to stand on our own two feet and I'm so grateful for that. We had what we needed and lot's of love. That is how my husband and I raised our three children and I'm grateful and proud to say that they are all doing well and know how to work hard. :)

Love how your journal is coming along. The lace really elevates the pages.I was also raised as you were. My mother had a debilitating illness who i had to care for. Also once i began earning a wage, I had to contribute to the household costs along with continuing with household chores. It didnt hurt me, and certainly prepared me for future life. I really enjoy listening to you and your creative ideas.

Where I grew up we started working on our little at the age of 9 or 10. Everyday, after school, we had to go to the farm, feed the animals, clean the ducks' pools, mush bread in water for the chickens, take the donkey to the field to gather herbs and greens for the kitchen, milk the goats as well as helping them deliver their little baby goats and more. At the end of all this we had a little class room where we had to learn about every animal on the planet and plants and all that.... We never had money, never got to go shopping or anything even similar to that. When I turned 18 and got drafted to the Navy and I got some allowances for my service. This allowance introduced me the world outside the farm. My children grew up in Canada and the US and learnt from a very young age that if they ever wanted to purchase cloths or shoes, they had to work for it. Sure enough, at the age of 15 they all got a job in fast food restaurants. Today all three of them are successful individuals. A screen play writer, an attorney and a stay home mom and raising their children the same way. As for the Waterfall Journal, it's funny, I just made the same journal for my granddaughter's birthday a couple of weeks ago, except I made it from fabric. It turned out stunning, just like yours is going to be at the end. Good job Mrs. E!

Love those papers & that crinkle sound. As for me last Thursday coming home from Doctor appointment, I was rear ended by one of those big county asphalt trucks. Lady in front of me slammed her break's so I hit mine but the truck behind me couldn't stop as fast. I haven't had any accidents in over 20 years. Now it's all insurance & repairs. The only good thing was my Doctor appointment went well, it was a beautiful warm day & I wasn't hurt or injured. 🙂

I miss working too, I was raised the same way. We worked in fields, cherry, apples, potatoes, trees, maples syrup we were very poor so we all worked there was 10 of us. I also made my kids earn what they wanted as they were growing up. This is going to be gorgeous. I'm gonna make one of these. I love using lace.

You are absolutely right E. People like to say they are working, but they don’t put out the quality required. My Dad used to say, “Work like you own the place.” Meaning, fix something out of place. Or look around and help someone you see struggling. Or show up a little early, and leave a little late. Look back at your work to make sure your job is done right. You nailed it on your tangent. Lol. Love the waterfall.

My favorite so far! I came home 1day and told my mom that I needed a pair of Nike shoes. She said,"You need a job!" So I got my first job. And I was only kid in neighborhood who had chores with no allowance. Be safe.

This is so beautiful! Looks so dainty! I too was raised very poor. I started earning money at about 12 years old. I baby sat and always had jobs during the summer to buy my own clothes and essentials. I am glad for my dad teaching us good work ethics! I guess that is why it is hard for me to understand the not wanting to work and help wanted signs everywhere. Hugz

I got 10cents a day to gather the eggs. We sold eggs that went to the grocery stores so there were lots of eggs. I used a corn cob to keep the pecking chickens from pecking me and got their eggs. My sister left them under the pecking chickens, so I picked up the ones she left. Love the lace, beautiful! It really makes the waterfall journal special.

I was raised on a small family dairy farm and we also were poor. All 6 kids had to work the farm, tend a huge garden, and we never got an allowance but we all have a strong work ethic as a result.

Oh, how beautiful!! It kinda reminds me of the little hankies my Granny kept in her purse and apron pockets. I was raised like you were although I am the baby and way down from the oldest of six (16 years) and my siblings tell me I had it good. LOL. We all had our chores to do and we helped with whatever we could. We picked up black walnuts to sell to buy things for the winter. We didn't get an allowance either but maybe a quarter or two if we got to "go to town" on Saturday. I don't regret a minute of it now. In fact, I feel a bit sorry for anyone that doesn't have the sense of family, the warm feeling if making sacrifices for loved ones and the satisfaction of working together to accomplish a goal. I like that I can say that I'm an Ozark hillbilly and grew up on a farm with a loving family and lots of hardworking kinfolk around.

Wow 👌 This waterfall journal with the papers and laces are is soo Beautiful 😍! I am quite a bit embarrassed to admit that I was almost ”spoilt” rotten ” when I grew up! My parents grew up and they were not at all wealthy and had to work early too! But they thought that they wanted to give us a much better of life. Unfortunately I never learnt to save, I spent all money shopping. I Wish I had learnt to save and how to be good with my economy. Learnt by mistakes the hard way. Not the way I recomend. My hubby and I have taught our children the best we could. But they are a bit spoilt too, but not that it turned them into egoistic kids. They always appreciate what they got/get for presents.

I love this! It's so 😍 beautiful I was raised to earn money. I earned my allowance it wasn't given to me for nothing. My job was whatever my parents, grands or adults told me to do. I learned my elders work to give to me...clothes food and shelter so there in turn it was my job to do what was handed to me, the broom. I also had to feed our pets and not just a dog or 2...we had 6 dogs and a bunch of cats and I'm allergic to cats, well I'm allergic to ALOT but anyway I had to feed them all too and none of the were mine. I was raised to give at Christmas to my family and year round to those that have less than me

I worked while growing up. I remember one time I wanted a new pair of shoes, so Daddy bought them and put them at the top of mom and dads closet. He said it was a layaway plan. So when I did work I would pay daddy and I finally paid off my shoes. I was very proud of my new shoes and I still remember what they looked like. I babysat with neighbors kids for a quarter.

Love how this is coming together. I can't wait to see the cover. I lost my mother when I was just 8 years old and our father was self employed so I spent all my youth watching him work hard all day and then come in and try to cook us good meals and keep the house in order. There were 4 of us, the baby was just a year old, so I learned real early how to cook, clean, wash and take care of the yard just so my father would not have to work so hard. I learned that a job done well is a job well done. My step-son talks about throw away jobs now and he has had so many jobs in his 38 years its not even funny. He is a very hard worker but will move from one job to another with the drop of a hat. I see so many in his generation that can't seem to stay in one place and make a career with one company. I worked for the same company for 32 years. lol don't even get me started.

my family was the same way.our allowance was food on our table and a roof over our head,etc...we had to work and earn for everything we got and so on.and taught the value of a dollar and respect and manners. dont regret any of it

Loved your accordion book, already made that one. Now for the waterfall book…tyvm😎❤️👍 raised to save your money to buy label items. Discovered the low brand names were just as good and could get a whole out fit which was better than one expensive thing. Taught to save and deposit in savings. Charging was not encouraged. Allowed to baby sit and started working at the hospital at 17 with a work permit from parents. All five of us kids turned out great educated and debt free. The best patients and best life ever.

I grew up on a lake with plenty of money. Both my parents worked good jobs. We got an allowance. A very good allowance, but it was worked hard for. During the summer we had to work 6 hours a day at putting in a yard, vanishing all the wood paneling in the house, baby sitting etc. for that allowance. During the school year we got off easy. Only working about an hour after school and several hours weekend days. Plus homework! Is kids ran the house and property while my parents worked at this jobs. But we grew up with good work ethic and knowing the value of the dollar bill!

I raised my kids and grandchildren the same thing. If you want money you earn it. Not just giving you money. My dad worked all his life. I worked at the same place for 33 yrs before moving and my son has 21 yrs in where he works.

My mom and dad both work really hard by one dad was an ironworker he helped build a lot of bridges and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania my other dad that I love so much him and I always truck drive together I don’t drive but company from one state to the other is long I enjoyed it and I try to raise my son like that to work and I did so I thought but now he was a marine and now he’s working and he didn’t understand why when he was younger about me buying $60 pants and I say no we don’t have the money now he understands because he hast to pay for everything himself now things kids learn anyway thank you for your patience and teaching and all that good stuff God bless and please have amazing night

If you use a rubber band around your lace it keeps it in place very well and they don’t rust.

This is so going on my list of projects that I want to make! I've been doing chores forever and have had jobs since I was 11 - everything from child care to picking berries at local farms, doughnut shops to office management. Even when my kids were little, I kept up some volunteer work. My kids (all teens now) do chores for their spending money and now that covid is less of a threat have prepared resumes for finding summer employment. We provide everything they need while they cover their own wants.

we are island folks we work for all we get there were no allowance somedays well we knew what hunger was mom worked and she taught us the same my dad he worked also and he took us and show us how he prep for work and we made our own cloth i started sewing when i was 5 years old with needle and thread i turned pro at sixteen (16 teen years old ) i made my first evening gown for a pageant yes the world has change and work ethics has changed also still working and yes i get tired real quickly but i keep going work and rest lol

Ms E I was raised like you. I didn’t get an allowance and I had to work for what I wAnted. My family was just above the poverty line but we had food and clothes. My mother made her clothes and clothes for me and my sister.

It looks like stencil parchment paper to me it is beautiful I'd like to try doing that not for a business but certainly to try it and see if it works

That is beautiful! I need to do that in a journal! I've held a job since I was 11 years old. Started with delivering newspapers with my mother as my boss. Don't ever do that! I never got away with anything. But, even though, none of us needed to work, my mother believed we shouldn't be spoiled rich brats and we should learn, or at least I did.

Hi Mrs E! I hope you get to see this. I watch your videos like your a major Channel ABC CBS NBC...LOL! but I realize this is a year old. I just wanted to say if you do get to read this, I too love working I am limited with my motor skills now but would still work if I could. it isn't that there aren't jobs a year later from this video...there are tons of jobs! nobody wants to work unfortunately they are jobs that I can't physically do anymore. work did more for me than just give me a paycheck...it directed my life and everything I knew what to do when I got to work when I didn't know what to do in life in generaI. I guess people don't need that direction any more.. I truly love watching your videos and enjoy learning everyday from them!! thank you!☺❤

I think those cards are blank playing cards. If they were mine, I might try an accordion journal, using jump rings for the hinges. As the third child, oldest daughter of twenty (yes, twenty!), I began tutoring at age ten, working with a legally blind girl two years older than I. At age 63, I still tutor special needs students, only now I charge about a hundred times more than I did then!
