Here is a followup video to my Sigma vs. Pentacon 135mm comparison. This time the game is a bit more fair and the vintage Yashica holds up quite well but not always. Check out the video to see what's the catch of getting the most out of a lens, especially a vintage one!

If you plan to do this again, consider some vintage lenses that actually have some chops when used for astro. SMC Takumar lenses come to mind (135mm,200mm etc).

I’ve just started using an old 1984 Tamron 35-70mm F3.5 taken from my Dad’s old Olympus and the first shot to Pleiades and California Nebula wasn’t that bad! Trying to shoot at Orion set at 70mm right now! ❤️💫

I've got a bunch of FD lenses. They are also a mess wide open, but most look pretty darned good stopped down a notch.

Have a look at tamron adaptall SP lenses. The 300mm f5.6 and 500mm 55bb are brilliant

If you have the opportunity I strongly recommend the Nikkor ED AF 300mm f/2.8. The one that I bought is 15 years old, the former owner was a professional photographer, he changed as the autofocus was too slow. As you imagine, I don’t care. This lens is just amazing !

I,ve used The Nikon 200F4 135 2.8 and Tokina 400 F5.6 perfectly suitable for astro, infinity stop and low element count make them very handy indeed

I have just started experimenting with this Yashi lens and I have been quite surprised by the amount of glow it produces when I open it more - the light bleeds all around like in some crazy dream when I open it more, in some situations - and then it becomes mostly clean with a more closed aperture. I was worried there was some moisture condensation inside of it, but... I don't think I can see any, and it was stored rather well all the time that it wasn't used.
