You will love the Mamiya Sekor C with a focal reducer. I use it on the Komodo all the time and love the character. Excited to see them paired with the V Raptor.

Thanks man, appreciate it! And yes, I haven't used the Contax myself but consistently think they look great on other people's work. They seem like the perfect balance between serious amounts of characters but just enough less funky than the Jena's that a client won't question it haha.

Agreed! For the most part they’re quite clean, but with just enough character to make them unique and interesting. I don’t like the flaring as much as the Leica Rs, but I think they’re a great balance like you said. The wide angles (and even the 35mm 1.4) are pretty expensive unfortunately, but still not bad compared to modern lenses (and of course the Leicas).

Remember that the 28 on the focal reducer on your komodo in 6k 17:9 is also a .95 so that is more like 26.6mm of that 28 in width and your helios is 55.1 and the 50 is 47.5 width fov!

We pretty much has the same set of lenses. Minus the sekors. I did own 4 of the sekors but sold them because I was filming any large format. But I LOVE my jena's. i look forward to your next video

Yeah, definitely! They both have a similarly unique bokeh. Love them both!

The Helios 44-2 is a copy of the Zeiss Jena Biotar, so it is in essence a Jena lens already :)

I've asked this to a lot of Jena 35/f2.4 users, but haven't really gotten a good response yet. The focus throw on this lens from infinity to 1 meter is so tiny (while the throw from 1m to 0.2 meter is very large!). From 1m-infinity it is probably just about 1cm. I find it hard to find a precise focus when focusing on moving subjects at (say) 2.3m or 3.5m, because the throw is making it hard to be precise. How do you deal with the tiny throw when focusing on subject farther away than 1m?

Yeah, it's not ideal, though I hadn't specifically noticed it being worse than some of my other photo lenses. TBH when I'm running and gunning, the focus just isn't expected to be perfect so I do my best to follow by hand. I'd probably rent re-housed ones with a PL mount if I had an AC to pull focus for me / needed to have a reasonably good change of doing pulls.
