-------------------------------------
A customer is restoring his old MBenz car seats and wanted us to repupholster them. Just automotive vinyl material. An embossed pattern for center panels and plain vinyl for the other parts. After dismantling them we found warped frames, but fortunately the springs were still in good condition,
The padding was a filthy mess. He wanted this job to be as cheap and simple as possible. We had to do a miracle with the padding. We did the best we could to make the seats look nicer than before.
Above all we can guarantee our covers will last in good shape for a very long time. After taking off the old covers the seats were thoroughly distorted. Consequently, we had to make new molds starting from scratch and using our cardstock method we teach in our basic courses.
Due to a lack of time we only have compiled some short clips that show portions of the whole process done on the set of seats. To tell the truth it was a hard task and kind of a challenge considering the condition of the seats.My son and I have complied with an old popular saying that says: 'whatever the customer asks for'.
I hope you find some inspiration in this video!

The customer wanted it in vinyl, as cheap as possible, rescuing the old batting. Not really in good shape. 'Whatever the customer asks for' an old saying says. As for me I would have replaced the whole padding for a new one, but it would have involved more money and time. I did it as fast as I could using basic upholstery. Better jobs are more meticulous and with different techniques. Anyways it looks good and I am thoroughly sure it will not fall apart and will last for a long time.

I used to have a W108 250S that really needed a redo for both front seats. I wish I had seen this video back then. What fabric did you use that is similar to MBTex? Wonderful work as always. Thx

It looks like but it is not the MBTex. It is just a regular vinyl with a similar texture.

The making of KZfaq videos involves time and money. The courses are to somehow support the channel, but not many people are interested in buying our courses. People prefer to watch our free videos instead. We have a lot of testimonials of grateful people that now they have a way of living with this artcraft they learnt from us for free.

I love the combination of perforated and smooth material. The seats looks great! Can you tell me what the layers are that make up the main seat? It looks like vinyl, then some kind of fleece or batting? I've seen you use foam before, but it doesn't look like foam... I am getting ready to make some seat covers for a Porsche. The originals are perforated like this. I would love to use this technique! Thanks again for sharing!!!

Hello Greg, interesting question! The original layers are as follows. 1. A jute material over the springs and frame. It is useful to protect the coconut batting against the steel wires. 2. A 4 cm layer of compressed coconut fibers over the whole seat. To compress and shape the fibers some kind of binder/special glue was used in the factory. 3. A manta or canvas cloth all over the coconut fiber. 4. A 1/2" of an inch medium density foam for the seat cover. It could be put on directly all over the seat to erase irregularities. In this case the cover would be plain or almost plain with a thin foam if necessary. Good luck with the Porsche seats. If any suggestion or idea is needed, please, feel free to ask in the commentary section of the video.

Yes, it is automotive vinyl. An embossed texture/pattern for center panels and a plain vinyl for the other portions. Check it out: www.albrightssupply.com/products-search?qs=Embossed+vinyl+wave www.albrightssupply.com/products-search?qs=Automotive+vinyl

Quick question, what sort of glue should I use to reattach the fabric on my car's roof lining?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 11 ай бұрын
I suppose part of your headliner fabric is hanging/sagging/loose. It happens because of the sun rays effect. The foamed backing of the fabric becomes dust. The best is to replace the whole headliner that comes glued down to the cardboard base. Car upholsterers use a sprayable glue for the sticking process.www.ebay.com/itm/254593470049 If a small portion is loose you could use a brushable glue to reattach it. The outcome is not nice though. www.ebay.com/itm/114649877783
