Here is a vintage National League baseball game featuring the St. Louis Cardinals @ Houston Astros on Friday, May 22, 1987. The pitchers are Tim Conroy and Nolan Ryan. The video ends abruptly a couple pitches into the 9th inning - there was a run scored in the 9th but it had no bearing on the final result. Posted for archival and entertainment purposes only.

Thanks so much for posting this! Sure miss those old Channel 5 broadcasts, I watched many a game back in the 80's as a teenager...Jay Randolph, Ron Jacober, Mike Shannon, Jack Buck...great times!

What a real treat to watch the Express in his prime. How did he not win the cy young??? Lol. What a beast out there.

He was still very dominant, but most would agree that his time with the Angels and first couple of years with Houston was probably Nolan Ryan’s “prime”; so 1973 to about 1982.

This was Tim Conroy's last year in the majors. Pitched in 10 games, started 9. 3-2 5.53 ERA. Never fulfilled potential w Cards or the As.

Nolan Ryan had a 2.70 ERA that year but finished with an 8-16 record.

Just proves that a pitcher's win-loss record doesn't matter.

Interesting dialogue! We’ll have one of these domes some day... Bill Bidwell would like one right now. And then Jay dissing all these other cities that have since surpassed St Louis. Yes, 1987 was a happier time in the gateway city and Jay Randolph’s optimistic commentary is proof of it.

I was curious who was drafted ahead of Nolan Ryan and found out he was drafted in the 12th round.....wow

Yeah I don't know where they got this "number 5" business. I knew he was drafted...without looking....something like 225th or so, maybe later. Piazza was the same way.

Astros felt of so close to going to they first World series last season, thanks to the blown call in the 1986 NLCS, Fred Blocklander the umpire called Reynolds out, which he safe by ½ step of so.

I am SO glad these guys were wrong about a "Dome" in St. Louis. Thankfully St. Louis built a real, retro-style "open-air" park when Busch 2 was torn down. NO domes in baseball is a good thing!

That 3-2 change-piece to McGee at 1:33:40 was not fair. 87mph screwball.

Lead the league in ERA, but your team averages 1.69 runs per game when you pitch. 🤦🏻‍♂️

These announcers have no idea what they're talking about...Nolan Ryan had a ton more the 2341 strikeouts at this point, and he was taken in the 12th round of the 1965 MLB draft, 295th overall...not 5th overall...jfc lofl
