3 cups of coffee was all it took. I really truly appreciate the time you take to put these together. I'm starting down the repair side of this hobby after collecting for 15 years. I wanted to let you know that you gave me the confidence to do this. I recapped and replaced all the known problematic transistors on my Sony Ta-2000f. It's working amazing but, there's an issue in the muting circuit I'll tackle one of these days. For now, I just shut the amp down first. Really truly sincerely, thank you!

I am glad someone is giving Sansui the credit it deserves. In terms of Japanese hifi only Luxman and Accuphase actually built equipment that beat Sansui. But Sansui was a lot more affordable.

Definitely my favorite style and look when it comes to the vintage amps,i was limited with funds and couldn't afford anything to high end so i settled on the black face sanyo DCA 401 rack mount style.not exactly a high end amp but it serves my needs perfectly and the sound is pretty decent.🇭🇲👍

Hmmm... you have me thinking about the Sansui AU-X1 and T1 DC (Direct-coupled) pair I bought in 1978 in Misawa, Japan. The last time I tried to power it up, the start-up relay would not work. I loved the fact I could run a Moving Coil Phono cartridge and had a freq response of 5-50K. It also had no tone controls as it was designed to run an Equalizer as well. Am thinkin would love to have that brought back up. I do remember getting the service manual with everything I purchased at that time.

I have a BS degree in Elec Eng but wrote software my whole career. Getting back into electronics again and I have recapped two receivers. I wish it was easier to find affordable equipment to restore. Maybe I need to reevaluate how much I need to spend on units that need work.

I always enjoyed "screwing around" with writing software. I just wasn't all that good with it.

Couple of things worth mentioning, the 33% ftc test is not fairly applicable to music amplifiers because they are not motor-drivers producing constant power. An amp failing the test doesn't mean it can't deliver its nominal rated power with a music program. Secondly the green 8ohm power resistors don't look like non-inductive and present a complex impedance to the amp rather then pure dc resistance at 1000hz. This will be greater then 8ohms.

As I have gotten older, now I have noticed peoples perception of me has changed. They seem to think because I’ve gotten older that I’m close minded to new ideas. Comparing the AU-9900 with its next smaller sibling the AU-7900 is interesting. The AU-7900 is the top amp of its litter (of medium tier amps) and looking at the specs, is virtually identical to the AU-9900 except for a difference of 5 watts per channel which at 75 vs 80 watts is not audible. I have never heard an AU-9900 that I can recall, but I wonder if it differs at all from my AU-7900 which I have. The electronics of the 7900 is almost the same (user features) packed into a smaller box.

Hi Chris. At 1h15m you talk about a glue used in the factory to hold large components in place for soldering purposes. I think your theory is correct, but the glue may also be used to hold large/heavier components in place for transportation purposes. For instance, a large capacitor or transistor with a large heatsink without the glue would be under constant stress in its soldering points while in the cargo area of an airplane from Tokyo to LA or NY. There would exist constant stress in terms of resonance and vibration causing some points to eventually crack, visible by the naked eye or not. Dave Jones did a bench test specifically on that in this video: 'EEVblog 1442 - DON'T DO THIS! (PCB Vibration Testing)'. Regards,

Noticed some new stuff at aliexpress, dual smd transistors, they are quite cheap but the range is small, BC847, MMDT5401 high voltage, MMDT3906 (2n3906), MMDT5551, MMDT3904 and a curious MMDT3946 that is a 2n3904 + 2n3906 in the same package. It may have some utility to fix vintage equipment uses double transistors. I suppose they are quite well matched.

Hi, I bought my AU-9900a from a smoker. Volume output was really low so I thoroughly cleaned every single connection point the unit had inside. Any suggestions?

@donovanweber6059 6 ай бұрын
STOP BITCHING! I couldn’t disagree more - I’m sure that I represent more than myself when I say I find what you call repetition to actually be “thoroughness” , and what you call digression I find to be extra information that’s both entertaining and educational. It takes a lot of effort and dedication to put together a decent video (and this video is much more than decent if one judges it by others of the same ilk) let alone a collection of videos and eventually a channel = when someone picks at it the way you are - because it isn’t perfect - the impression I and a percentage of whoever reads your comment are going to get is of a person with a “selfish attitude and an unfriendly nature” . Constructive criticisms never have to be rude or even blunt and before you try and pull the card “what are you some kind of Karen who needs it sugarcoated” ? Don’t bother . That’s just a pathetic ripoff of something very real and eerily familiar - it should be since it’s another similar type of selfish individual with an unfriendly nature. If you want something perfect I say go make it yourself and I will support your effort = if I’m able to find out you put out a video because you wanted a better product then I’ll support it and you and I’ll even officially apologize . The fact is so far everyone that complains , well that’s all they do and nothing else. Yet I have no right nor desire to say your that type of person , maybe you are a perfectionist which I can be myself sometimes and it’s hard not to be a bit unfriendly when your in that mode. Or maybe even you were just in a bad mood and fired off a mostly meaningless rude comment……….in which case socially speaking you’re a far cry better person than what I was thinking . I say socially because none of this is meant to condemn you for the person you really are so much as to bring your attention to the bluntness of your nature and the negative impression it makes . maybe your a great person who fired away with an offhand comment he thought was unimportant or even possibly didn’t think it rude at all in which case your only guilt is of ignorance but that my friend isn’t at all the impression your comment made . Something to think about . Peace .

I’m forced to eat crow here because really I’m the one being a ass simple as that - I read the first line of your comment and like an irresponsible kid put together a smart ass comment intending to bring your attention to your ignorance and in reality I guess I was actually talking about myself . I still disagree with you but that is all nothing and I mean nothing else applies . I sincerely apologize to you sir!

I’m a novice vintage audio enthusiast, I did do aviation ET calibration and Maintenance back in the 80’s on an aircraft carrier. But, I have found the info I needed to do the basic alignments on all six of my JVC integrated amps from ‘78 and ‘79 at “AUDIOSERVICEMANUALS”. I don’t even down load them, just print the pages I need.
